Kawasaki Versys 900 2027 presented as a crossover with radar, filling the gap between existing models

Kawasaki has launched the 2027 Versys 900, a crossover motorcycle designed to fill the absence of an intermediate model between the Versys 650 and the Versys 1100. An important highlight of this new model is the inclusion of a radar system in the Versys family.

This model uses a 948 cc four-cylinder engine, derived from the naked Z900. It will be offered in two configurations: conventional and SE, and its commercial launch in Europe is scheduled for April 2027.

Engine and Performance Details

The inline four-cylinder engine, with a capacity of 948 cc, generates 122 hp at 9,500 rpm and produces 9.92 kgfm at 8,000 rpm. This performance, which surpasses that of the Versys 650, justifies Kawasaki's positioning of this crossover closer to the profile of the Z series naked motorcycles.

In terms of transmission, it features a six-speed gearbox equipped with a slipper clutch and quickshifter, allowing gear changes without needing to engage the clutch.

Technology and Electronic Package

According to Kawasaki itself, the Versys 900 is the first in the line to incorporate ARAS, an advanced assistance package based on front and rear radar sensors. This package includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, blind spot detection, and an emergency stop signal, which activates hazard lights during abrupt braking.

It is important to note that the manufacturer designates this feature as Adaptive Cruise Control Lite, indicating a simplified version of adaptive cruise control, different from the systems used on larger displacement bikes that already have radar. Kawasaki did not specify which functionalities were omitted in this package.

Furthermore, the electronic suite covers ABS and inclination-sensitive KTRC traction control, KCMF cornering management, as well as integrated power and riding modes.

Chassis and Ergonomics

The bike's construction utilizes a trellis steel tubular frame, complemented by an aluminum twin-sided swingarm and a wheelbase measuring 1,550 mm. The Japanese manufacturer states that the weight distribution approaches 50% on each axle, although the total weight of the unit has not been disclosed.

The suspension maintains the elongated travel characteristic of the Versys line: an inverted fork with 150 mm in the front and a monoshock with 159 mm in the rear. Both components allow for preload and rebound damping adjustments, with the rear adjustment being made via a knob, without the need for tools.

The wheels are 17 inches on both ends and use Metzeler Roadtec 01 road tires, emphasizing its focus on asphalt rather than off-road use.

Riding ergonomics are designed for comfort. The seat has a two-level adjustment, ranging from 825 mm to 845 mm, and the windscreen offers seven positions of manual adjustment. The fuel tank holds 20 liters.

Load Capacity and Instrumentation

As an optional accessory, the Versys 900 supports a 47-liter rear top case and two 32-liter side panniers, totaling 111 liters of storage. Kawasaki also plans to offer Tourer and Grand Tourer packages with original accessories.

The user interface consists of a 5-inch color TFT screen, which has two viewing modes: one focused on engine data and another dedicated to navigation. Connectivity is managed by the Rideology app and includes voice commands and turn-by-turn navigation. Additionally, there is a USB-C port for device charging.

Differences Between Versions

The conventional version is equipped with adjustable levers, adjustable windscreen, and a luggage rack. The SE version adds features such as a center stand, handguards, heated grips, LED fog lights, radiator guards, frame protectors, and lower fairing protectors—items that the buyer of the basic version would practically have to purchase separately.

Color options are: the conventional is available in Metallic Spark Black and Pearl Robotic White, while the SE presents the combinations Plasma Lime Green/Metallic Spark Black and Firecracker Red/Metallic Carbon Gray.

In the United Kingdom, the price of the 2027 Versys 900 is £10,899 for the conventional version and £11,799 for the SE. In direct conversion, these values correspond to approximately R$ 72 thousand and R$ 78 thousand, however, this value is merely referential, as it does not include taxes, shipping, import costs, or the brand's pricing policy in Brazil.

Kawasaki has not yet confirmed the launch of the Versys 900 in the Brazilian market nor provided a price estimate for the country. Currently, the crossover line available in Brazil consists of the Versys-X 300, Versys 650, and Versys 1100, exactly filling the space that this new model was conceived to occupy in Europe.
