Uzbekistan Airports installs air quality monitoring stations near airports

Uzbekistan Airports is installing automated stations to monitor atmospheric air quality near airports across Uzbekistan. The equipment installation has been completed in Samarkand and Fergana, and similar stations are planned for other airports in the country.

The station in Fergana was mounted on October 15, while the installation and calibration of equipment in Samarkand were finished on October 9.

These stations are located in the sanitary protection zones of the airports and are designed for 24-hour monitoring of ambient air quality. They measure concentrations of nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, ozone, ammonia, and hydrogen sulfide, as well as fine particulate matter PM2.5 and PM10.

The system also records air temperature and humidity, atmospheric pressure, as well as wind speed and direction. The collected data is automatically transmitted to the Unified Geospatial Information Database of the ecological system. This will allow tracking changes in air quality and using measurement results to assess the state of the environment and determine necessary measures.

This project is being implemented in collaboration with Malkam Environmental Technologies under Presidential Decree No. 81 on the transformation of the environmental sector and Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 783, which aims to reduce the negative impact of industrial enterprises on the environment.

The installation of these stations is part of Uzbekistan Airports' efforts to strengthen environmental monitoring and minimize the impact of airport activities on nature.

Agencies explain the methodology for analyzing the international air quality index

In response to discussions on social media regarding data from the international air quality index, relevant agencies provided clarifications on the necessity of applying a comprehensive approach when assessing the state of the atmosphere.

Specialists emphasized that the index itself reflects only the current state of the air at a specific moment, but does not indicate the root causes or sources of pollution. Various factors influence air quality, including emissions from transport, industrial enterprises, heating systems, and meteorological conditions; therefore, conclusions must be based on a thorough study of the composition of harmful substance concentrations and the conditions of measurements.

In accordance with the decree of the head of state dated March 25, 2026, on the implementation of the national project 'Clean Air,' and the resolution of October 13, 2026, a set of measures is being implemented aimed at reducing harmful emissions and introducing energy-efficient technologies.

Focus on the ecological improvement of greenhouse farms

Particular attention is paid to the ecological improvement of greenhouse complexes, especially in the capital region. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed proposals on introducing a special ecological regime in Tashkent and five neighboring districts on October 13. This regime involves transitioning greenhouses to use environmentally friendly energy sources, installing dust and gas purification equipment, and providing financial assistance to entrepreneurs to transition to new standards.

The Ministry of Agriculture conducts continuous consultative work with farmers, informing them about the rules for installing modern multi-stage filters and carbon monoxide monitoring systems. The agency refuted rumors from social media about the mandatory nature of installing such equipment, stressing that interaction is conducted in the spirit of open dialogue, protection of legitimate business rights, and strict adherence to environmental legislation. Previously, the possibility of relocating Tashkent greenhouses to Surkhandarya under preferential terms was also mentioned.
