International fashion academy to open in Tashkent, which will become a state university

The Tashkent International Fashion Academy will be established in Uzbekistan with the goal of training qualified personnel for the light industry. This educational institution will receive the status of a state higher education institution, and classes are scheduled to begin in the 2026/2027 academic year. Plans also include launching a dual education system and constructing a dormitory.

Details of the Academy's Creation and Operation

The new academy will operate under the auspices of the Agency for Light Industry Development. Its creation is based on combining the joint educational program of the Tashkent Institute of Textile and Light Industry and the Paris International Fashion Academy. Students already studying under this joint program will be able to continue their studies within the framework of the new academy, after which they will be issued a diploma from this institution.

In addition to participating in joint programs, the university will have the opportunity to independently train specialists in bachelor's degree programs and master's specialties.

Development Prospects and New Opportunities for Students

Starting from the 2027/2028 academic year, the implementation of dual education is planned. This system will allow for the training of specialists for textile, sewing, knitwear, and leather footwear industries according to the orders of specific companies and organizations, integrating theoretical training with practical work.

The academy will also take on the tasks of developing uniform designs for various corporations under state orders, as well as engaging in the development and formation of national brands.

A special path for further education is provided for graduates of light industry technical schools. Those who successfully complete their studies at a specialized technical school and achieve an average grade that meets the academy's criteria can apply directly to the third year of the bachelor's program, with the study being paid and formalized by contract in this case.

To ensure the operation of the academy and attract foreign specialists, teachers, and students, a procedure for obtaining and extending multiple visas and registrations will be organized. These measures will also apply to the academy's administrative staff and their family members.

By the end of 2028, a dormitory for 400 people will be built for the new university's students. Until this facility is ready, students transferred from the Tashkent Institute of Textile and Light Industry can temporarily use the old institute's dormitory.

Oriental Studies Graduates of Tashkent State University Will Teach in Remote Schools of Uzbekistan

Graduates of the Oriental Studies program at Tashkent State University will have the opportunity to work as teachers in remote areas of Uzbekistan for two years. This program includes work in an educational institution, as well as additional funding and professional training.

Goal of Cooperation

The possibility of implementing this initiative is based on a memorandum of cooperation signed between the organization Teach for Uzbekistan (TFU) and Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies. The goal of the parties is to improve the quality of foreign language education, particularly Eastern languages, in schools located far from major settlements.

Fellowship Program

Talented university graduates can participate in a two-year Fellowship program. Participants in this program will work full-time in schools, conducting lessons, while simultaneously undergoing intensive training focused on pedagogy and leadership development. This will allow young specialists not only to apply their knowledge in practice but also to improve their teaching skills.

In addition to a standard salary, participants will receive supplementary methodological and financial assistance. Upon completing the program, they will become part of the international Teach For All network, which unites representatives from over 60 countries.

It is expected that this program will significantly increase the chances of schoolchildren from remote regions to study foreign languages. Furthermore, young teachers will be involved in creating language clubs and implementing social projects, helping children broaden their horizons and apply their acquired knowledge in practice.

It should also be noted that Uzbekistan has a state award established in honor of Abdulla Avloni, which is intended to encourage the most deserving educators throughout the entire education system.

Over 14 thousand new places planned in schools and kindergartens in Tashkent by 2027

A large-scale update to the education system is being prepared in the capital of Uzbekistan, Tashkent, by 2027. The plan includes the construction of two new educational institutions, increasing the capacity of existing schools, and renovating kindergartens. As a result of these measures, it is expected that 12.4 thousand new places will be available for schoolchildren and 2 thousand places for preschoolers.

The development of these projects was based on an analysis of the city's population growth and the current demand for educational places. A working group, headed by Tashkent Deputy Mayor Durdona Rakhimova, thoroughly studied the level of occupancy in all educational institutions and determined the need for additional places in each district.

Planned changes in school education

The program provides for the construction of two entirely new schools, each designed to accommodate 1.9 thousand students. Additionally, nine schools located in the Mirzo-Ulubek, Yashnabad, Sergeli, Yunusabad, Shayxantakur, Uchtepin, Almazar, and Yangihaet districts will undergo expansion. This will be achieved through the construction of additional buildings and renovation, which will increase the total capacity of these facilities by several thousand places.

Major repairs are also planned for schools No. 178 and No. 90 in the Chilanzar district, as well as school No. 172 in the Yakkasaray district.

Development of preschool education

Changes will also affect the field of preschool education. In the Shayxantakur district, kindergartens No. 140 and No. 229 are planned for expansion, in the Yashnabad district—kindergarten No. 517, and in the Almazar district—kindergarten No. 277. These institutions will receive a total of 930 additional places. Major repairs are also scheduled for kindergartens No. 200, No. 496, and No. 526 in the Chilanzar district, as well as kindergarten No. 333 in the Mirzo-Ulubek district.

All presented projects are currently formalized as proposals for subsequent inclusion in the state program for 2027 and fully correspond to the identified real needs of the capital's districts. Concurrently, the SI Davomat system, equipped with 'smart' cameras for automated attendance tracking, is being introduced in Tashkent schools.

Austria's '2+2' vocational education model is being implemented in Uzbekistan

The process of implementing the Austrian model of vocational education is beginning in Uzbekistan. During their visit to the republic, representatives of the Krems University of Applied Sciences (IMC Krems)—Rector Heinz Boyer and Executive Director Udo Brendle—visited Namangan region, where meetings were held with responsible structures.

The delegation studied the work of Technical School No. 1 of the Chartak district, including its curricula, equipment, workshops, and practical laboratories. Issues regarding the integration of international standards into vocational training, the development of personnel for the hospitality and tourism industry, as well as the development of dual education, exchange of experience between teachers and students, and the launch of Train-the-Trainer courses and the implementation of common educational initiatives were discussed.

The joint educational program will be implemented under the '2+2' scheme. In the initial stage, students who complete two years of vocational training will continue studying the tourism field from the third to the sixth semester and will receive an IMC diploma in this area. Subsequently, holding a bachelor's degree, they can take a two-semester course in hotel management and gastronomy to obtain an IMC diploma in hotel management.

Previously, on May 7, an agreement on cooperation was signed between the Agency for Management Efficiency under the President, the Agency for Vocational Education, and IMC Krems. The main goal of this partnership is to bring the vocational education system in line with labor market demands and to train highly qualified specialists of world-class level. As part of continuing their visit, the Austrian group plans to hold meetings in Bukhara region.
