For many employees, attractive job features include high salary, free meals, the opportunity to interact with the team, or access to a gym. However, the experience of senior AI engineer Aman Vaishnav, who works in Bangalore, shows that peace of mind and trust are also critically important in a job.
In his opinion, a work environment where an employee does not constantly have to prove their correctness, where they do not need to provide lengthy explanations for leave, and where there is freedom of action can make the job significantly more comfortable.
In a video published on the social network Instagram, Aman stated that he visits the office only twice a week and does so voluntarily. In his office, getting the job done is valued more than adhering to working hours or having a fixed desk. He also noted in his video that there is no biometric system to record arrival and departure times, and there are no assigned seats; he chooses any desk, opens his laptop, and starts working.
According to Vaishnav, the leave application process is also very simple. He simply sends a message stating that he is taking the day off, and his manager replies, 'Rest up, see you tomorrow.' He jokingly added that he doesn't need to write emotional messages or invent excuses to take Friday off.
In his office, according to Vaishnav, there is no discrimination between senior and junior employees. The organization's leader also works alongside them. Managers do not interfere in every small detail of the work or create unnecessary rush. Employees are only expected to fulfill their duties.
His experience calls into question the concept that the time an employee spends in the office is considered a measure of their productivity. Vaishnav believes that in addition to freedom of action, responsibility is also necessary. An employee's productivity should be determined not by how long they sat at their desk, but by how high-quality their work was.
The Importance of Combining Good Salary and Personal Time
Job choice certainly depends on a good salary, as this satisfies financial needs. However, the daily atmosphere in the workplace determines how comfortable an employee feels in their position. Constant supervision, questioning about every matter, and pressure to explain leave can make even a high-paying job stressful. Conversely, an atmosphere based on trust and flexibility helps employees find a better work-life balance.
Such an atmosphere is not guaranteed in every office. The needs and responsibilities of different jobs vary. Nevertheless, Vaishnav's experience raises the question of how companies assess employee performance: by the hours spent in the office or by the work completed.
In the video he posted, Vaishnav continued that while a high annual income certainly covers bills, a good workplace brings peace of mind. His experience demonstrates that a good job is not limited to a high salary; trust in the workplace, respect, easy access to leave, and having time for personal life can also make a job suitable for long-term commitment.
