Yashvi Saiwal dropped from squad after Shubman Gill's rest; Ashwin criticizes selectors

The decision to exclude young batsman Yashvi Saiwal from the Indian squad for the upcoming ODI tour against New Zealand is causing controversy. Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has expressed his dissatisfaction with the selectors' actions.

Ashwin believes that since Shubman Gill received rest in the last two matches, Yashvi should have been included in the team. He warned that a prolonged absence from international cricket could negatively affect the confidence and development of this talented player.

Discussing this topic on his YouTube channel, Ravichandran Ashwin called the selectors' decision 'unfair and regrettable.' He emphasized that Yashvi Saiwal has proven his worth by consistently scoring runs in various formats, and therefore he should be given sufficient opportunities to maintain form at the international level.

Ravichandran Ashwin stated: 'If Shubman Gill is not playing in the last two ODIs, then Yashvi Saiwal must definitely get a chance in that position. It is very disappointing because all these things can affect his confidence.' According to Ashwin, Yashvi has been away from international cricket for about four months.

The former spinner questioned why a player who consistently scores runs is not being given a chance to play in the squad. He noted: 'He was a run-scoring machine. If his confidence is suffering, it is the duty of the management and selectors to give him an opportunity wherever possible. But they simply don't give him chances. This is very unfair.'

Ravichandran Ashwin also suggested that the selectors could speak directly with Yashvi Saiwal to learn his opinion regarding playing in the last two ODIs. While acknowledging the importance of preparation for Test matches, he questioned the necessity of foregoing ODI opportunities for this purpose.

Calling Yashvi Saiwal a 'priceless talent,' Ravichandran Ashwin concluded that caring for his development is the responsibility of the selectors and the team management. In his words, talented athletes need timely opportunities not only to prove their abilities but also to be ready for international cricket.

After losing the first match, Themba Bavuma made changes to the team, giving Matthew Brightzeke a chance

Following South Africa's defeat by Australia in the first match of the three-match series of test games by a margin of 214 runs, significant changes were made to the South African squad under the leadership of Themba Bavuma. The team star, batsman Tristan Stubbs, was dropped, and Matthew Brightzeke was included in the 17-man squad in his place.

The second match of this series is scheduled for October 18th and will take place at Stuut George Park in Gqeberha. In the first test against Australia, Tristan Stubbs failed to demonstrate outstanding results in batting; he scored 32 runs in the first innings, and his score stopped at one run in the second. It was after this that the team management decided to drop him.

Despite having previously shown an impressive performance of 94 runs in the match against India, his failure against Australia proved decisive. Matthew Brightzeke will get the opportunity to prove his worth in Test cricket. Previously, Brightzeke had played two Tests for South Africa, scoring only 14 runs, but his recent ODI performance strengthened his chances of selection. He scored a century in the first ODI against Australia.

South Africa's head coach, Shukri Conrad, noted that Brightzeke's current form was one of the main reasons for his inclusion, and he highly praised his character and conduct. In the second test, wicketkeeper Ryan Rickelton will play as a batsman. After confirmation from coach Shukri Conrad, Kyle Verreyn's place in the starting eleven looks difficult, as he failed to score a half-century in his last 13 Test matches.

South Africa still needs to decide whether Rickelton will open the game or take a lower position in the batting order. If he bats lower, another batsman will need to be chosen to start the game alongside Aiden Markram. Tony De Джорgi, suffering from a hamstring injury, is currently unavailable for selection. Because of this, Matthew Brightzeke might get a chance to start, although inconsistent batsman Marcus Ekerman is also an option.

There is hope that Kagiso Rabada will return to the South African squad for the second test. He could not participate in the first test due to a minor hamstring issue, and the final decision on his fitness will depend on the team's needs and medical assessment. South Africa also has other options in fast bowling, such as Eric Nortje, Marco Jansen, Vian Mulder, Gerald Coetzee, Dan Patterson, and Corbin Bosch. Keshav Maharaj, Simon Harmer, and Senuren Mutusami remain in the team. Furthermore, heavy rain on the first day of the second test may affect the squad selection, forcing South Africa to choose its starting eleven depending on circumstances.

The South African squad for the second test includes: Themba Bavuma (captain), Marcus Ekerman, David Bellingham, Matthew Brightzeke, Corbin Bosch, Gerald Coetzee, Simon Harmer, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, Vian Mulder, Senuren Mutusami, Eric Nortje, Dan Patterson, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, and Kyle Verreyn.

South Africa's schedule against Australia: First Test – October 9 to 13 in Durban (Australia won by 214 runs); Second Test – October 18 to 22 in Gqeberha; Third Test – October 27 to 31 in Cape Town.

Ishan Kishan talks about the difficulties after being dropped from the team and his return

Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan has demonstrated consistently strong play since January of this year, following an impressive comeback. He has capitalized on every opportunity given to him recently.

There was a time when he had to leave the Indian squad. However, he himself revealed the difficulties he went through during that period. He shared what he experienced during a tough time and how he focused on self-improvement.

In an interview with JioHotstar, Ishan Kishan recalled the time when he lost his central contract and was outside the team. He noted that getting out of such a situation, which happens to any player, is not easy.

Kishan openly stated that upon being excluded from the international team, he deeply understood the consequences of his mistakes. After that, he worked diligently on his physical fitness and ball skills. He remained patient and focused on correcting his shortcomings, showing good results in domestic cricket.

Ishan added that he was confident that if he continued to score runs in domestic cricket, opportunities would open up naturally, and through hard work, he would regain selection to the national team.

Since his return, Ishan Kishan continues to show excellent form in the game. Some cricket critics call him the team's new sultan. Kishan emphasized that after returning to the team, he no longer worries about what might happen if he is dropped again.

Recently, in the first T20 match played in Lucknow against West Indies, Ishan Kishan played an inconspicuous yet crucial partnership of 137 runs with captain Shreyas Iyer. During this match, while Captain Iyer scored runs in an aggressive style, Ishan happily took on the second role.

On this matter, Ishan noted that as a batsman, if his day is not going well, but the player on the other end is in great form and connecting well with the ball, he does not hesitate to take on the second role or play more conservatively.
