Entry of commercial transport meeting BS-4 standard banned in Delhi from November due to air pollution

Due to rising air pollution in Delhi, the administration has made a major decision: starting November 1, 2026, there will be a complete ban on entry into Delhi for all commercial trucks and buses that meet BS-IV emission standards or lower.

The Gurugram Police issued a strict warning to carriers and drivers. This decision has caused concern in inter-state transport corridors, as it will directly affect the movement of millions of vehicles.

According to the new rules, only commercial vehicles meeting electric vehicle (EV), compressed natural gas (CNG), or BS-VI diesel fuel standards can now enter Delhi. The rules are so strict that they provide no exemptions for light goods vehicles (LGV), medium goods vehicles (MGV), heavy goods vehicles (HGV), or luxury buses and trucks operating under an All India Tourist Permit (AITP).

Nevertheless, buses already registered in Delhi are currently exempt from this restriction, but the capital's gates are closing to older vehicles arriving from other states.

This decision was made to prevent the worsening of the smog and toxic air crisis in the Delhi-NCR region, which usually intensifies with the onset of winter. The Gurugram Police appealed to all carriers, tour operators, and drivers to carefully check the emission standards and registration documents of their vehicles before traveling to Delhi.

The police clearly stated that violating the rules will result in a significant fine and strict legal measures. Therefore, to avoid severe traffic jams and border issues, it is necessary to ensure the compliance of one's transport with the requirements in advance.
