Uzbekistan invested over $2 billion in modernizing power grids

Over the past five years, Uzbekistan has allocated more than two billion dollars to upgrade its electrical grid infrastructure. As the next priority, the country has set a goal for further network development and improvement of energy storage systems.

Planned Goals and Projects

This initiative was announced during an open dialogue between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and representatives of the investment community in the energy sector. The state head's press secretary, Sherzod Asadov, informed that by 2030, plans include the construction of 5,000 kilometers of new networks and the erection of 16 major substations.

Furthermore, the capacity of energy storage systems is to be increased to 4.5 gigawatts. A significant portion of these projects will be implemented in several regions, including Tashkent, Samarkand, Namangan, Bukhara, Jizzakh, Karakalpakstan, and Kashkadarya.

The country will focus on integrated projects that combine generation, storage systems, and the networks themselves. Partnership with investors specializing in the construction of pumped-storage hydroelectric power plants is planned to ensure long-term energy storage.

Uzbekistan is also expanding its international cooperation. A project involving the export of 'green' energy to Europe via the Caspian Sea in partnership with Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan is moving into the practical implementation stage. Afghanistan and South Asia have been identified as additional promising markets for export.
