Experts warn about the dangers of using cheap heaters and blowers

With the arrival of winter and the approach of severe cold, many people use heaters to mitigate the effects of frost. However, using such heaters can lead to various health problems.

Although heaters temporarily help cope with the cold, excessive use can cause skin and respiratory issues. Therefore, it is recommended to use a hygrometer along with the heater.

If the room temperature rises using a heater, the oxygen level in the room begins to drop. This can lead to suffocation and dizziness.

Frequent use of heaters can also trigger skin allergies and itching.

There are online platforms where humidity monitors can be purchased. Many options are available on the market, starting from 200 rupees, which display both temperature and humidity levels.

To ensure safety, it is crucial to check for the ISI marking when purchasing a heater. ISI is an important quality and safety certification mark for industrial and consumer goods in India.

When buying a heater, you should also check its safety features. Some inexpensive models use low-quality wires and plastic, which could potentially lead to the heater catching fire.

Uzbekistan clarifies procedure for referring oncology patients for treatment

The State Fund of Medical Insurance of Uzbekistan has provided clarifications regarding the procedure for issuing subsidized electronic referrals for cancer patients and the payment for medical services. This statement was made in response to questions raised in the article 'Readers write: Should cancer patients fight for chemotherapy themselves?', which circulated on social networks on October 14.

The Fund emphasized that patients with oncological diseases must receive the necessary medical care in a timely manner. According to the Fund's data, the electronic referral system is designed to streamline the provision of medical services, maintain records, and ensure transparency in financing, not to create additional obstacles to treatment.

Requirements for referrals and payment

In accordance with Cabinet of Ministers Decree No. 694 dated November 4, 2025, referrals for specialized inpatient treatment must be processed through a subsidized electronic referral using the Ministry of Health's information system. Medical institutions are responsible for preparing the required documentation and referring patients for treatment.

The Fund pays medical institutions only for the services actually rendered. Furthermore, according to Presidential Decree No. PP-5199 dated July 28, 2021, payments are made after the completion of treatment, based on medical documentation, contractual terms, and approved basic tariffs.

The Fund noted that the established financing procedure does not entail delays in treatment or denial of necessary medical care to patients. The Fund organizes payment for medical services provided within its competence and in accordance with current regulations.

HealthLab Platform Launched to Help South Africans Plan Healthy Trips

The new health platform HealthLab has been created to help residents of South Africa ensure a comfortable journey and return in better condition. This digital platform explores the impact of travel on a person's physical and mental state while offering practical recommendations for healthier rest.

Stepping away from a routine can help reduce stress levels, stimulate activity, deepen social connections, and allow an overloaded mind to recover. However, travel can also disrupt sleep, exacerbate chronic illnesses, increase anxiety, and create uncertainty regarding medication intake, nutrition, hydration, and access to medical care.

HealthLab is launched precisely to help South Africans manage both sides of this experience. The new platform provides clear and practical information on a wide range of topics, including general health, mental well-being, nutrition, fitness, women's and men's health, and personal care. The platform's content is based on the characteristics and realities of life in South Africa, rather than being created for a general international audience.

Trust is an integral part of the process. Medical professionals participate in reviewing a significant portion of HealthLab's content. Verified articles indicate the specialist who reviewed it, their qualifications, the date of review, and the evidence base supporting the presented recommendations. This provides travelers with a reliable starting point for questions that are often postponed until the last minute.

The platform answers questions such as: how to transport chronic medications; what should be included in a basic health kit for a trip; how to responsibly manage sleep disturbances; when a stomach ailment requires a doctor's visit; and what precautions to take before traveling if one has a chronic condition.

Furthermore, HealthLab is interested in the positive aspects of rest. Time spent in nature, regular walks, discovering new places, and genuine relaxation can support both physical and psychological well-being. The platform highlights these benefits without presenting travel as a universal cure or a promise of excessive health improvement. Although a short vacation cannot solve all sources of stress, it can create conditions for recovery, gaining a new perspective, and reconnecting with oneself.

In addition to topics related to health while traveling, HealthLab offers guides on symptoms and diseases, materials on nutrition and meal planning, tips on exercise and recovery, mental health resources, checklists, and tools for preparing for doctor visits, helping readers understand when more information is needed.

Whether the trip is a road trip through the Karoo, a weekend in the mountains, or a long flight abroad, preparation beforehand makes the experience safer and more restorative. Users are invited to visit the website https://www.healthlab.co.za/ to view clear and reliable health information created specifically for life in South Africa.
