Yuvraj Singh becomes assistant and coaching coach for Delhi Capitals after 19 years in IPL career

The legendary all-rounder of Indian cricket, Yuvraj Singh, is preparing to start a new chapter in the IPL, transitioning from a player to a coach. He will join Delhi Capitals as an assistant and batting coach.

Looking back at his IPL career path, one can note his participation in various franchises. His journey in the IPL began with Kings XI Punjab, where he played from 2008 to 2010, and he also returned to the team in 2018. While playing for Punjab, Yuvraj left his mark, and under his leadership, Kings XI Punjab reached the semi-finals in 2008.

Furthermore, Yuvraj demonstrated mastery while playing for Pune Warriors India in 2011 and 2013. Then, in 2014, he became part of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). For RCB, he entertained fans with his aggressive play and powerful shots. Royal Challengers Bangalore acquired Yuvraj Singh in the IPL 2014 auction for a record 14 million rupees.

He was also associated with teams from Delhi and Hyderabad. In 2015, Yuvraj played for Delhi Daredevils, now known as Delhi Capitals; at that time, Delhi Daredevils included him in their squad for a record 16 million rupees. Following this, in 2016 and 2017, he was part of Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Yuvraj's career also included appearances for Mumbai Indians, where he played in 2019. Thus, his journey in the IPL passed through many major franchises.

In terms of statistics, Yuvraj Singh took two hat-tricks in the IPL, both of which were scored in the 2009 season while playing for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in South Africa. He is the only player to have taken two hat-tricks in a single IPL season. Additionally, Yuvraj won the IPL title twice during his career:

  • Winning the IPL in 2016 with Sunrisers Hyderabad, where they defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final.

  • A second victory in the IPL in 2019, as part of the Mumbai Indians team.

Now, as a coach, Yuvraj is taking on new responsibilities. Although he ended his international career seven years ago, his passion for cricket remains strong. In recent years, he has coached many young Indian players, including Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma. Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, and Prabhsimran Singh shared that during the coronavirus pandemic, Yuvraj kept these three players at his home and conducted training sessions with them.

Moreover, Yuvraj contacted Sanju Samson by phone before the T20 World Cup 2026 to give him advice and work on his batting. Sanju Samson himself mentioned this in an interview, which led to Sanju Samson receiving the 'Player of the Tournament' award at this T20 World Cup. Before the IPL 2026, Yuvraj Singh was also seen training Rishabh Pant, Priyansh Arya, and Abdul Samad. Even Arjun Tendulkar, Shahid Singh's son, admired Yuvraj since childhood.

Ultimately, Yuvraj Singh is ready to take on the new role of assistant and batting coach with Delhi Capitals. Fans hope that under Yuvraj's guidance, the team's batsmen will perform outstandingly.

Yuvraj Singh appointed as assistant and batting coach for Delhi Capitals for the new IPL season

Former explosive all-rounder of the Indian team Yuvraj Singh has started a new chapter in his coaching career. For the new IPL season, Yuvraj Singh has been appointed as an assistant and batting coach for the Delhi Capitals team.

With this appointment, the old duo with Saurabh Ganguly will be back on the field. Although Yuvraj Singh previously played for Delhi, this time he joins the team in a new role. Yuvraj Singh, who was a hero of India's victories in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup, is starting his coaching career in the IPL with this franchise. Yuvraj has long-standing ties with the Delhi franchise.

Previously, in 2015, Delhi Capitals (then Delhi Daredevils) acquired Yuvraj Singh for a record 16 crore. After such a high price, he became the most expensive player in IPL history.

Expressing joy about this new position, Yuvraj stated that he is very excited about starting a new chapter in his life with Delhi Capitals. He noted that he has long-standing connections with the franchise and knows the owners well, which makes this opportunity special. He also added that he looks forward to working as a coach alongside Dada (Saurabh Ganguly).

Despite this being Yuvraj's first experience as a coach in any franchise, he has recently mentored several young and rising Indian batsmen, such as Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill. His interaction with Abhishek Sharma, who gained particular fame in the T20 format due to his aggressive playing style, was particularly noticeable.

The Delhi Capitals team has not won any IPL titles yet, and after becoming runners-up in 2020, the team aims to win the trophy in the upcoming season. The addition of Yuvraj Singh to the coaching staff, following Saurabh Ganguly's appointment as head coach, is considered a significant step for the team.

Hardik Singh reveals how the Indian team defeated Pakistan in Asian Games with 10 players

The Indian team secured a spot in the Asian Games 2026 final by defeating Pakistan 4:3. Following this, India won the gold medal by beating Malaysia 5:1.

During the intense match against Pakistan, the Indian team had to play with only 10 players. In the session 'When We Played With All Our Hearts' on the program 'Haryana Panchayat Aajtak' on Thursday (October 8), hockey player Hardik Singh shared details of this match and also spoke about the pressure associated with the Asian Games. Archer Niru Danda also participated in this session.

Hardik recounted that the match against Pakistan was extremely tense. India led 3:1 at halftime, but after one of the players received a card, the team started the game with ten men. Pakistan capitalized on this advantage and equalized the score to 3:2.

Tension was visible on the field between the Indian and Pakistani players. A dispute arose involving player Dilpreet, after which the captains of both teams separated their athletes. The referee showed Dilpreet a green card, which temporarily reduced the number of players on the Indian team.

According to Hardik, the team was somewhat shaken at that moment. Although there is a sense of national pride in matches against Pakistan, professional hockey players must ignore such emotions. He emphasized that the team relied on its preparation, the coach's tactics, and mutual trust.

Hardik also mentioned that the team believed they could score a goal even in the last 40 seconds of the match, similar to how they might win two medals at the Olympics. This confidence materialized on the field, and India won 4:3. Hardik admitted that this is why the match became a strong and memorable semi-final.

Hardik stated that he had never felt as much pressure in his eight years of career as he did at the Asian Games. Over the past four years, Indian teams have shown an impressive winning streak against Asian rivals. This streak of about 30 matches increased expectations for both the team and the fans.

Furthermore, the team experienced a disappointing performance at the World Cup. It was a huge challenge to prepare physically and mentally for the Asian Games just two weeks after the World Cup. Hardik explained that the World Cup required two years of preparation, and they needed to win gold at the Asian Games within just two weeks to qualify for the Olympics.

In his opinion, it was impossible to restore physical fitness to peak condition in such a short time. There was also psychological pressure, as much was expected from Indian hockey. Nevertheless, the team enjoyed this period and focused on the goal of winning gold in the second consecutive Asian Championship.

Archer Niru Danda was also present during this session. 26-year-old Niru from Haryana won the gold medal in the individual women's trap event at the Asian Games, scoring 28 points. This marked India's first women's gold medal in this sport.

About a month before the Asian Games, Niru won gold at the ISSF World Cup, scoring 121 out of 125 points. She became the first Indian woman to achieve such a result at this level. Niru stated that the level of the ISSF World Cup can be considered equivalent to the Olympic level because world Olympians and champions participate there.

According to Niru, her success was the result of two or three years of hard work. She reached the finals multiple times, but her goal was always to win gold. To cope with the pressure, she changed her training process, practicing amidst crowd noise to maintain focus on the process despite distractions during shooting.

She noted that maintaining stability of body and mind is critical in shooting. People say that the mind should be completely empty during shooting, but she couldn't do that. Therefore, she started training along with her thoughts.

The medal table also increases pressure on athletes. Hardik reported that in major tournaments like the Asian Games, the question of medals is constantly in the athletes' minds. The hockey tournament runs from the very beginning to the last day. During this time, when Indian athletes win medals in other sports, there is joy, but also the thought of when India will secure a medal in hockey on the medal table.

Niru also mentioned that when results in rifle and pistol shooting did not meet expectations, the pressure on the shotgun team increased. On one hand, they bore the responsibility of winning medals for the country and family, and on the other, their own expectations.

Both athletes emphasized that even small things matter to athletes: sleep, nutrition, hydration, and thoughts that arise during the match can affect the result.
