British and Spanish paleoanthropologists analyzed Neanderthal remains found in the Shanidar cave in Iraq several years ago. During the study, they determined that the well-preserved scapula of an adult individual, who lived about 75 thousand years ago, had a puncture wound.
It is hypothesized that the cause of death for this archaic human was a wooden spear that penetrated his chest cavity. This information was presented in a scientific article published in Scientific Reports.
