Tense moment in T20I in Hyderabad: Naman Dira's controversial out after stumping

The fourth T20 International match between India and West Indies took place in Hyderabad, which ended with a victory for the West Indies by 24 runs. During the match, a dispute arose regarding Naman Dira's stumping.

The third umpire spent about five minutes reviewing replays from different angles before declaring the Indian player out. Questions were raised as to whether Dira's foot was inside the crease line, judging by the video from the side angle.

The Indian team was chasing a target of 248 runs. On the fourth ball of the twelfth over, Gudakesh Motie's attack led him to lure Naman Dira into his rotation. The ball slowly came through the air, swerved off the pitch, and bypassed Dira. When the Indian batsman stepped forward, wicketkeeper Shy Hap quickly gathered the bails.

At first glance, it seemed that Dira managed to bring his back foot back onto the crease line, offering hope for his survival. The umpire did not make an immediate decision and requested assistance from the third umpire.

The third umpire examined the replays from multiple angles. Although the side view showed Dira's back foot appearing to be inside the line, the main question was whether the foot touched the ground or was in the air. After a review lasting about five minutes, the umpires concluded that Dira's back foot did not touch the ground and was outside the crease line in the air. Following this, he was declared out.

Naman Dira appeared dissatisfied with the decision, leaving the field with his head held high in disappointment. Nevertheless, according to available information, the decision was made by the umpires after a thorough examination of all angles.

This match proved unsuccessful for Naman Dira both in batting and bowling. As a bowler, he bowled only one over, conceding 19 runs. Captain Shreyas Iyer subsequently did not give him a second over. Interestingly, within the current T20 series, Dira was among India's top bowlers in terms of wickets taken, having claimed five wickets. However, in the fourth match, he could not make an impact as a bowler and was out without scoring a single run as a batsman.

The West Indies batted first and scored 247/3 in 20 overs. Shy Hap played an inconspicuous innings, scoring 102 not out off 50 balls, and was named 'Player of the Match'. Chasing a target of 248 runs, the Indian team was dismissed at 223 runs in 19.3 overs, losing the match by 24 runs. Naman Dira's stumping occurred at a critical moment when the Indian team needed a crucial contribution from the middle order to reach the target.

India lost to West Indies in T20 after two players from Hyderabad created a strong push

In the fourth T20 match between India and West Indies, held at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on October 14, West Indies initially posted a substantial total of 247/3, thanks to the performance of Shai Hope, who scored 102 runs off 50 balls. Consequently, the Indian team needed to chase a target of 248 runs.

The start of the game was promising for India: the team scored 60 runs in just 4.1 overs. However, a major setback soon occurred, leading to the dismissal of Sandeep Samson, who had shown a bright innings by scoring 56 runs off 23 balls.

Midway through the innings, the Indian team faced a series of setbacks. After Naman Dheer was dismissed, the team's score reached 130/5 by the 11.4 over, which seemed to predetermine the Indian squad's defeat, given the need to defend a large total.

Following Naman Dheer's exit, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Tilak Verma came to bat. Notably, Tilak Verma is from Hyderabad and plays for the Hyderabad team in domestic cricket, while Nitish plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. Thus, two players connected to Hyderabad were on the field.

The situation could have turned in India's favor. After 16 overs, the Indian team had a score of 189/5, and only 59 runs were needed in the next 24 balls to win. It seemed that chasing this target was quite achievable. In the 15th over, Nitish Kumar scored 21 runs against Shamra Joseph.

Romario Shepherd bowled the 16th over. Tilak hit a six on the first delivery. This was followed by one untouched ball, and then Tilak scored one run. The subsequent ball was a wide, and on the fourth legal delivery, Nitish scored one run. On the fifth delivery, Tilak Verma added two runs, but on the sixth delivery of the same over, Tilak Verma (with a score of 43 runs off 25 balls) was dismissed. After this, the score stood at 48 runs for 18 balls.

Shamr Springer bowled the 18th over, in which 5 runs were scored. This over increased the pressure on the Indian team, and Springer once again demonstrated his usefulness towards the end of the match.

Subsequently, in the 19th over, Kim Paul consecutively dismissed Nitish Kumar (41 runs off 20 balls) and Prince Yadav (0). On the fifth ball of the 19th over, Axar Patel (3) was also dismissed. As a result, the Indian team's score was 213/9. Kim Paul also completed his fifth wicket.

Overall, Tilak's dismissal, Shamr Springer's 18th over, and Kim Paul's bowling played a small pivotal role that allowed West Indies to win the match by 24 runs and level the series at 2-2. The next decisive match out of five is scheduled for Saturday in Bengaluru.

This marked the first time West Indies had defeated India on Indian soil, defending their T20I count, whereas the previous six attempts had been unsuccessful. Furthermore, it was the second-highest total ever scored by India while batting second in a T20I; previously, in 2016 against the same team in Lodderhill, India lost by 1 run, having scored 244/4.

Critic outraged by Shamir Joseph's bowling tactics against Arshdeep Singh in India vs West Indies match

In the fourth T20 match between India and West Indies, held in Hyderabad on Wednesday (October 14), the bowling tactics of West Indies bowler Shamir Joseph caused significant controversy. West Indies won the match by 24 runs, leveling the series at 2-2.

Sriwats Goswami, a former cricketer from Bengal, expressed dissatisfaction with Joseph's actions in the final over against Arshdeep Singh. He stated that instead of targeting Arshdeep Singh's body, Joseph should have bowled to the stumps, especially when India's chances of winning were virtually gone.

India needed to score 35 runs in the last over while having only one remaining batting wicket. Arshdeep Singh was batting, and Maink Yadav was at the opposite end. Under these conditions, a West Indies victory was considered highly probable. Shamir Joseph used short balls against Arshdeep in this over; one such delivery hit the Indian fast bowler's shoulder and arm, causing Arshdeep to fall on the field and requiring a physiotherapist.

After a short break, Arshdeep Singh resumed play, but Joseph continued to use short deliveries. Following this, India's captain, Shreyas Iyer, indicated that Arshdeep should be declared injured, thus ending the Indian innings. Goswami reiterated his indignation regarding Joseph's conduct, writing: 'What Shamir Joseph did on the last three balls against Arshdeep contradicts the spirit of sportsmanship.'

Sriwats Goswami acknowledged that international cricket is an extremely competitive sport, but in his opinion, the bowler always had another option in such a situation. He emphasized that Joseph could have bowled to the stumps instead of constantly aiming short balls at the batsman's body. His comments drew attention to Joseph's strategy in the final over, although this remains Goswami's personal opinion.

Overall, West Indies, having lost the toss and batting first, scored 247 runs, losing three wickets. In response, the Indian team managed to reach 223 runs but ultimately lost the match by 24 runs. This victory allowed the visiting team to level the series at 2-2. Shamir Joseph is known for his fast bowling and regularly bowls at speeds exceeding 140 kilometers per hour.

Shai Hope becomes hero in India vs West Indies match thanks to Tilak Verma's error

In the fourth T20 match between India and West Indies, held in Hyderabad, Caribbean captain Shai Hope made a splash with his powerful batting. On the last ball before reaching a century, he was aided by a serious error from Indian fielder Tilak Verma, which served as a lifeline and allowed him to complete the hundred.

On the final ball, Shai Hope had scored 96 runs and deflected a strong shot sideways. The ball flew directly towards Tilak Verma, who was positioned at long-on. It could have been an easy catch, but due to the bright stadium lighting, Tilak Verma did not see the ball and could not judge it correctly. The ball went over his hands and crossed the boundary line, becoming a six.

Taking advantage of this reprieve, Shai Hope completed his magnificent century. Immediately after the ball slipped from his hands, Indian vice-captain Tilak Verma gestured that he had not noticed the ball due to the floodlight. Nevertheless, this small blunder proved very costly for the Indian team, as this sixth run helped Hope score his fourth century in the series as captain of the West Indies.
