Film 'Vibe': Preti Zinta stands out in Kunal Kemmu's comedy

The comedic thriller 'Vibe' is characterized by its absurdity, as it stars Kunal Kemmu, who also served as the screenwriter and director. Viewers are advised to disregard the plot's oddities in favor of the acting and dialogue.

It turns out at the end of the film that 'Vibe' represents a Vigrious Intelligence Bureau of Execution—a new agency that Madam X must create (Preti Zinta, playing a supporting role in her return after two decades away from the industry).

Hardik (Kemmu), a hopelessly lost slacker who hates any work, and his best friend Bugs (Sparsh Shrivastava), a composed software developer, become involved in a high-level mission in Thailand. The goal of the mission is to save the world from an international gang aiming to disrupt it.

However, instead of becoming seasoned agents led by Madam X, the film's humor is largely derived from the comical incompetence, desperate lies, and complete lack of preparation of this pair.

The plot, which began as a comedy, weakens in the second half, turning more into a pseudo-spy action-thriller. Nevertheless, Zinta is an undeniable asset to the picture; she plays an eccentric, determined intelligence leader whose appearance matches the seriousness of her position. She embraces the film's absurd tone, flawlessly combining threatening authority with dry comedic performance.

Kemmu's direction and witty dialogue give the actors many opportunities for self-expression. Shrivastava serves as the perfect balanced contrast to Kemmu's manic performance. The film faces difficulties in the final act, as the desire for a more serious, thriller-laden style slows down the pace of the comedy. Despite this, 'Vibe' succeeds as light entertainment, offering constant laughs if the viewer is willing to accept the plot's absurdity.
