Prithvi Shaw, once considered a future big star of Indian cricket, is now actively working to restore his career. At 26, he aims to start a new chapter, directing all his efforts towards cricket, family, and hard work to return to the national team. In recent years, Shaw has faced several difficulties, including poor form, injuries, and exclusion from the team.
In an interview with India Today, Prithvi Shaw stated that he is training more intensely than before and has temporarily distanced himself from social media. He prefers to focus on self-improvement, ignoring external discussions. Shaw emphasized: 'Right now I am working harder than ever. My attention is focused only on myself, my cricket, and my family. As long as I want to pay attention only to these three things, I try to ignore everything else.'
He also shared that he dislikes the presence of cameras and paparazzi in his personal life. This is why he avoids public events and prefers to spend his free time in solitude. Shaw clarified that this is not related to worrying about external criticism, but rather to the need to maintain personal space, as he believes everyone has their own preferences.
At a young age, Prithvi Shaw attracted everyone's attention due to his baseball skills. His historic batting score of 546 runs in the Harris Shields tournament in Mumbai brought him fame. In 2018, he led the team that won the U-19 World Cup. That same year, he debuted in Tests against the West Indies, scoring a century.
Due to his aggressive playing style and excellent technique, Prithvi Shaw was seen as a bright future for Indian cricket. However, he could not sustain his success at the international level for long. Shaw played five Test matches, six ODIs, and one T20 International for the Indian team. Since July 2021, after a match against Sri Lanka, he has been unable to return to the squad. His career has also suffered due to issues raised regarding his physical condition, discipline, and consistency of results, as well as injuries.
Shaw's career troubles worsened in 2024 after he was dropped from the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team. Delhi Capitals (DC) also released him, and he failed to attract any team in the IPL 2025 mega auction. During this difficult period, former Indian coach Greg Chappell wrote him a letter of support, reminding him that past failures should not define the future.
Now, Prithvi Shaw feels that his family's thoughts and his own behavior matter more to him than the opinions of strangers. He stated: 'The comments of outsiders are not that important to me. What matters to me is what my family thinks of me, and what kind of person I am. I know myself and I know what needs to be done to achieve my goal.' He also admitted that everyone makes mistakes and now believes in moving forward rather than regretting the past.
Prithvi Shaw has rekindled hopes for his return in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season. In seven matches, he scored 537 runs, including a blistering innings of 222 runs against Chandigarh, played off 156 balls. Delhi Capitals included him again in the IPL 2026 squad, although he did not get a chance to play this season. His domestic cricket performances show that he continues to try to make a comeback with strong batting.
Prithvi Shaw realizes how competitive the position in the Indian top-order batting lineup is. Therefore, he needs not only talent but also consistent good results. He claims that he always tries to put the team's needs above personal ambitions. Speaking about the goal of returning to the Indian squad, Prithvi noted: 'If this wasn't a goal, I wouldn't be playing cricket today. My biggest goal is to return to the Indian team. It is not an attempt to prove something to anyone. It is my personal battle with myself.'
Currently, Prithvi Shaw's formula is simple: more training, more time for cricket, and peace with his family. He enjoys spending time watching Netflix or playing video games in a hotel room.
