Reports appeared on social media about the discharge of red-colored water into the Chirchik River. In response, employees of the Ecopolice Committee for Ecology began a ten-day inspection at the urban wastewater treatment facilities of JSC 'Tashkent Region Water Supply'.
The inspection took place in the Kibray district of the Tashkent region and was coordinated with the Business Ombudsman. The inspection found that the facility, intended only for biological purification, was accepting sewage from textile production with dyes and chemical enterprises, and these effluents contained levels of pollution exceeding established norms.
The situation was worsened by breakdowns in aeration and sludge settling systems, which reduced the overall purification efficiency to 27.7%. Furthermore, regulations strictly prohibit discharging such substances into the municipal sewer system without prior treatment.
Moreover, it was revealed that wastewater from the village of Gazalkent in the Bostanlyk district was not being directed to the treatment facilities at all, but was flowing directly into the Chirchik River.
As a result of the inspection, the enterprise was assigned compensatory payments for the discharge of untreated sewage, as well as for failing to submit reports on environmental payments for the period from Q3 2025 to Q2 2026, and for the absence of a necessary background monitoring station.
The head of the wastewater treatment facilities refused to sign the final inspection report. All collected documents have been handed over to law enforcement agencies for legal action, and a lawsuit is being prepared to forcibly collect compensation in the economic court.
