Taste Of Cape Town Festival to Bring Together Restaurants La Colombe, FYN, and Vuur at Green Point Cricket Club Stadium

Cape Town has 40 days left to solidify its status. On November 28 and 29, 2026, the Taste of Cape Town festival will gather twelve of the city's most renowned restaurants in one venue—the Green Point Cricket Club stadium. All visitors will dine using unified menus and prices.

The initial idea behind the festival was to best celebrate Cape Town's restaurants by bringing the entire city together around them. Over one weekend, twelve cuisines that have helped Cape Town enter the global gastronomic map will cook side-by-side, providing a place for every guest.

Bonke Shipalana, CEO of The Allure Group, which holds the exclusive IMG license for hosting Taste in South Africa, noted: 'Cape Town doesn't attract you with its menu. It attracts you with a table.' He added that a memorable summer event in Cape Town is not the one with the most dishes, but the one where everyone gathers. For two days, La Colombe, FYN, and Vuur will cook in one location, and a ticket costing 450 rand will grant access to all these tables.

Confirmed chefs include James Haga from La Colombe, Amori Burger from Upper Union, Wusi Ndlovu from EDGE Africa, Shaun Scorbey from Vuur, and Bertus Basson from Basson & Co. They are joined by FYN founder Peter Templehoff and culinary director Ashley Moss.

For the City of Cape Town, a partner in the festival, this weekend means more than just food. J P Smith, a member of the City of Cape Town's Majoritarian Committee on Safety and Security, stated: 'Cape Town's cuisine and wine are part of our identity, and they attract people to our city from all corners of the world. Taste of Cape Town showcases our restaurants, our producers, and young talents to thousands of guests in one weekend.'

In addition to culinary delights, the festival is designed to satisfy all the senses. Guests can enjoy live culinary demonstrations, a music stage, as well as wines from Kleine Zalze, Cavalli, Waterford, Steenberg Vineyards, and Boekenhoutskloof, supported by Graham Beck as the Cap Classique partner.

Tickets start from 450 rand for the Taste Entry Pass, which grants full access to all restaurants, demonstrations, and tastings. The Taste Premium option costs 595 rand and includes a voucher for a signature dish. Taste Lux will cost 895 rand and provides a welcome drink and a voucher for an exclusive dish. The Taste Lux Friends package allows bringing four people for 3222 rand, saving 358 rand. Daily capacity is limited to 4000 guests.

Taste of Cape Town announced five participating restaurants for the festival

The Taste of Cape Town festival joins the global calendar of food festivals alongside London, Paris, Dubai, and São Paulo this November. Over two days, the Green Point Cricket Club venue will transform into a single festival zone where 12 restaurants will cook side-by-side with culinary demonstrations, wine and Cap Classique service, and for visitors.

After the dates were announced, the main question asked by ticket holders and everyone else was: who would be cooking? The answer remained hidden for a long time. Today, the first five participating restaurants have been revealed.

La Colombe and Chef James Gaag

La Colombe is listed among the 50 best restaurants in the world in 2024 and has received the title of best restaurant in Africa. Furthermore, it was recognized with three stars in the Eat Out Woolworths Restaurant Awards 2025. Gaag began his career as a student in 2010, worked under Raymond Blanc in Oxford, and then returned to Constantia Nek to head the kitchen. His main principle is that taste comes first, and the dish must be immediately delightful.

EDGE Africa and Chef Vusi Ndlovu

EDGE Africa specializes in African fire-cooked products, where smoke is used as a spice. Ndlovu won the Young Chef title in Africa and the Middle East in 2018, and was also honored at The Best Chef Awards in Milan in 2025.

Basson & Co. is also among the participants. Chef Bertus Basson is well known in South Africa as a television barbecue judge, author, and chef of establishments such as Ongetem in Gardens, Chorus in Waterkloof Wine Estate, and Spek & Bone on Dorp Street. Green Point will be one of the first locations outside of Stellenbosch where his new cuisine can be tasted.

Upper Union and Chef Amori Burger

Burger's culinary approach is based on her love for hosting friends and family at home, and Upper Union recreates an atmosphere of relaxation and socializing around good food. Food is served continuously, wine flows, and no one rushes to leave. In 2025, Upper Union received one star from Eat Out Woolworths and was named Luxe Contemporary Restaurant of the Year, while Burger won the Culinary Rising Star Award.

Vuur and Chef Shaun Scrooby

Scrooby spent 17 years as a safari guide before turning an old stable yard at Remhoogte Wine Estate into a restaurant. The kitchen operates exclusively on wood fire, and all dishes are made to order, with the wood selected as an ingredient to impart flavor, not just as fuel. Since opening in 2022, Vuur has been included in the list of 101 best steak restaurants in the world for 2024, 2025, and 2026, and now ranks 52nd, holding the title of best steak restaurant in Africa.

Visiting all five restaurants would require five bookings, five evenings, and several long trips between Constantia Nek, Kloof Street, the city center, and two wineries outside of Stellenbosch. However, on November 28 and 29, this is possible with one ticket and one address in Green Point.

Bonke Shipalana, CEO and founder of The Allure Group, noted: 'Since the dates were announced, the first thing people ask about is not the price or parking. It is who is cooking.' He added: 'We kept this answer hidden until we could give it properly. These five kitchens built their names one service at a time, and for two days they will be cooking some distance apart, on one site, for anyone who has a ticket.'

The remaining seven restaurants will be announced in the coming weeks, increasing the number of kitchens at the festival to twelve. From 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM, renowned DJs will provide musical accompaniment with the freshest beats. As part of the Feed Every Sense platform, the food is only half the story.

Tickets start from R450 for the Taste Festival Entry Pass, which grants full access to all restaurants, demonstrations, and tastings. Seats can be booked at tasteofcapetown.com or Quicket. Taste of Cape Town will take place from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM on Saturday, November 28, and Sunday, November 29, 2026, at the Green Point Cricket Club.

Rivalry between Proteas and Australia expected to remain intense in Durban

Despite the fact that Australian captain Pat Cummins and Proteas vice-captain Aiden Markram could play in the same T20 franchise, their meeting in the first Test at Kingsmead on Friday does not promise a lack of tension.

Ignoring shared dressing rooms, friendly social media relations, and camaraderie in franchise cricket, Ashwell Prince believes none of this will matter when South Africa and Australia take the field at Kingsmead for the first Test match.

This rivalry is resurfacing nearly eight years after the controversial Sandpapergate incident, which soured relations between the teams and added a dramatic chapter to one of the sport's hottest contests.

Although the game has changed significantly since then, especially considering that most of the prominent figures involved at the time are no longer present, Prince believes the competitive edge between the Proteas and the Australians remains as sharp as ever.

This view aligns with that of Proteas all-rounder Marco Jansen, who recently stated on Cricket.com.au: 'I can tell you it will be hot. Although, it probably won't be as heated as when Australia came here [in 2018]. But there will definitely be fire coming from both sides.'

In contrast, Mitchell Starc from Australia stated on the podcast Keepin' It Cricket that any lingering issues between the teams have been resolved. He noted: 'I don't think there is any hostility. I believe these two teams know each other quite well in the world of franchise [T20] sports. Not just me, but a number of other guys have played together and against each other for several years.'

Prince acknowledges that modern cricket has brought the opposing teams closer. Key players such as Steve Smith and Starc often share dressing rooms with Proteas stars like Ryan Rickelton, Marco Jansen, and Tristan Stubbs in the IPL, The Hundred, and Major League Cricket leagues.

Nevertheless, he does not believe that the players' drive to win Test matches for their country has weakened, especially when the game is on the line. The Proteas batting coach said: 'Obviously, nowadays players share dressing rooms because of the nature of cricket worldwide. They are all good friends, but I don't know if that affects how much heat there will be in the match. After all, I can promise you that when it comes to a Test match, when the situation is hanging by a thread, that T20 dressing room atmosphere where everyone likes each other disappears very quickly. Because it is about winning the Test match for your country. And when it comes time to act, I mean, our guys will be ready for it. And I am sure they will.'

Thus, the Friday meeting may start with smiles and handshakes, but if Prince is right, those courtesies will not last long.
