Bangalore employee placed on Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) after requesting leave for Dasara, expressing dissatisfaction

The corporate culture of one company has once again become a topic of discussion on social media. During the start of the holiday season, when a long list of vacations was compiled, one employee shared their experience on the Reddit platform. For an employee working in retail in Bangalore, the upcoming Dasara holidays turned into a source of stress.

The employee planned to travel to their hometown to spend time with family during the festival and even booked tickets worth 5000 rupees. However, after a performance review, the manager placed them on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) and denied the two-day leave request. The employee now has concerns about being able to meet with family and the future of their job.

The employee posted their issue on Reddit, stating in the title: 'Planned to go home to celebrate Dasara with family, but the manager put me on PIP.' In their post, they specified that they had only been working at the company for about four months. A recent performance evaluation was conducted, after which the manager informed them that their results did not meet expectations, and they were included in the PIP plan.

The employee also mentioned that they requested two days of leave to spend time with family for Dasara, but the manager refused, citing that while on PIP, they were not entitled to leave. Furthermore, the employee claims that they were never provided with written notification of being placed on PIP. They noted that the manager had previously rejected their leave requests even before they were put on PIP. The employee expressed strong concern about this situation, as they have not visited their parents in a long time and they are waiting for them. They are currently confused: should they go to their family or focus on keeping their job?

Many Reddit users advised the employee to go home for Dasara. One commenter wrote that they should just go home since they are not a school principal who requires permission. Another user recommended that the employee celebrate the holiday at home while simultaneously starting a job search. Another piece of advice was to go home, enjoy the holiday, and then begin looking for a new position, calling PIP a new form of termination.

Some users advised the employee to make measured decisions instead of resigning hastily. They believed that if they felt they could not meet the PIP requirements, they should start applying for other vacancies. One commenter emphasized that before making decisions such as resigning or serving a notice period, the employee should consider all their options. Another user stressed the need to focus on finding a new job.
