Physical Readiness function on HUAWEI WATCH GT 7 Pro analyzes body recovery based on multiple indicators

The smartwatches have significantly improved their data collection capabilities, providing information on sleep duration, heart rate intensity during workouts, calories burned, and daily activity level.

However, for people who exercise regularly, the most valuable thing is understanding the body's condition before the next workout—how ready the body is for new loads. This is the principle upon which the Physical Readiness function in HUAWEI WATCH GT 7 Pro is based.

Instead of leaving various health and activity metrics scattered across different screens, this function combines a range of signals to provide a daily overview of physical condition and recovery process.

It is designed for situations where yesterday's data alone is insufficient. A person might have slept long enough but trained unusually intensely; or the day might have been calm, but sleep started late. Or everything might align, and the body has fully recovered for the planned golf session, padel game, or bike ride.

More than just a check indicator

Physical Readiness evaluates fourteen different parameters, including sleep quality, heart rate variability (HRV), emotional state, and calories burned. This data is then aggregated into an overall Physical Readiness score: a higher score indicates better recovery, while a lower one may suggest insufficient rest or excessive strain.

HUAWEI WATCH GT 7 Pro classifies the Physical Readiness level into five categories and provides the user with a daily recovery assessment in the mornings after three days of continuous wear. The value of this function lies in the comprehensive review of these signals. For example, HRV may have little meaning when viewed in isolation, and a single night's sleep score is not always capable of describing the body's reaction to activity that lasted several days. Physical Readiness adds the necessary context by analyzing the overall picture.

Professor Xin Gao, a professor of computer science at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology and co-chair of the Center of Excellence in Smart Healthcare, tested the watch over ten days and noted Physical Readiness as the most convincing function for maintaining health.

Knowing when to increase, and when to decrease the pace

HUAWEI WATCH GT 7 Pro has specialized modes for activities such as cycling, golf, and padel. For instance, padel players can track shot types, swing speed, heart rate, calories burned, rally length, and shot distribution. Cyclists can plan routes and climbs using altitude and segment information. Golfers can use the Plays-like Distance function to account for altitude changes when choosing a shot.

All this information is useful during exercise, but Physical Readiness adds another layer of analysis before the workout begins. A high Physical Readiness score after quality rest and balanced training load helps confirm good recovery. If the score drops after late evenings, especially a heavy training period or insufficient recovery, the watch may advise moving slower that day.

Over time, this allows the user to see the relationship between training, sleep, and recovery instead of viewing them as separate elements of a routine.

Recovery only works with continuous watch wearing

The Physical Readiness function also depends on regular usage. The watch cannot form a useful picture of sleep and recovery if it is charging for most of the night. HUAWEI WATCH GT 7 Pro offers up to 21 days of battery life in light use mode and up to 12 days in normal use, facilitating continuous monitoring during workouts, daily activities, and sleep.

Gao emphasizes that continuous wearing is fundamental to obtaining useful long-term health information, as the algorithm cannot account for nights when data collection did not occur. This combination is the essence of Physical Readiness. HUAWEI WATCH GT 7 Pro is capable of collecting detailed data during activity, continuing monitoring during sleep, and then combining these signals in the morning.

Instead of simply reporting what was done yesterday, the device helps understand how the body reacted to those actions, providing a more informed starting point for deciding what today should be like.

The HUAWEI WATCH GT 7 series is now available in South Africa starting from R5,999, with additional offers beginning from R169 per month for 36 months. Selected purchases include HUAWEI FreeBuds SE 2 priced at R1,499 each through participating retailers, while supplies last. Terms and conditions apply.
