A leopard entered the courtyard of a house in the Panchmahal region of Gujarat late at night. The leopard attacked a livestock animal tied in the courtyard, resulting in the animal's death. This entire incident was recorded by a CCTV camera installed at the house. Following the public release of this video, fear regarding leopards has spread among local residents.
This incident occurred in Kalantra village of Kalol taluka in the Panchmahal district. The leopard entered the house courtyard late at night while the residents were sleeping. The animal tied in the courtyard had no idea that it was about to be attacked. The leopard reached there and pounced on the animal. This entire event, which happened at night, was recorded on CCTV. The noise generated during the attack woke up the house occupants. When the people realized the presence of the leopard in the courtyard, they started making noise, after which the leopard fled from there. However, the animal could not be saved from the attack.
It is noteworthy that the leopard did not enter from a deserted forest or field, but directly into the house courtyard. In rural areas, people often tie their animals outside the house or in the courtyard. In such a situation, if leopard activity reaches populated areas, concern for the safety of livestock is natural.
Frequent movement of leopards has been observed in Kalantra village and surrounding areas. However, detailed information is yet to emerge regarding the routes the leopard is taking to the village and the extent of its movement. Nevertheless, this attack on an animal inside a house has created fear among the villagers.
In this regard, the Forest Department has issued an appeal to villagers and livestock owners to exercise caution. According to the Forest Department, if anyone sees a leopard or any wildlife-related incident occurs, they should immediately inform the department.
The department has also clarified that people should not attempt to chase away, catch, or approach the leopard themselves, as doing so can be dangerous. Instead of suddenly appearing before the leopard to surround or provoke it, it is necessary to maintain a safe distance and inform the department. Currently, one animal has died in the leopard attack in Kalantra village.
