Several years ago, the author realized that he was a true technology enthusiast. Although it is commonly believed that the first step to solving a problem is acknowledging its existence, he quickly understood that his passion was not a problem at all.
He had always shown interest in various gadgets, including cameras, computers, and other technical devices. His professional path began in video editing and journalism, which he studied from 2004 to 2006. In 2007, he started working as a video editor, cameraman, and photographer.
By 2010, he transitioned into sports journalism, which allowed him to combine his core skills: taking high-quality photos, shooting videos, and sometimes editing materials. At that time, the demand for video content in sports journalism was low, but as the multimedia industry developed, it became the main priority; success was impossible without the ability to seamlessly combine video, photography, and text.
Despite his deep involvement in the sports world, a significant turning point occurred in 2020 when Apple announced its shift from Intel processors to its proprietary Apple Silicon chips for the Mac lineup. This move marked a radical change in laptop performance and energy efficiency. The mere thought of the capabilities of these new devices sparked a new surge of enthusiasm in the author, one he hadn't felt since his early days covering sporting events. Over time, his initial interest in sports journalism naturally waned, and the rapidly evolving tech industry became far more captivating to him.
The author began spending a lot of time studying content on YouTube, especially that dedicated to the new MacBook Air. He was not new to using MacBooks, as he had used them for years: first a 13-inch MacBook Pro when he became a sports journalist in 2010, then a second model in 2015 after the first broke, and a third in 2019 after another accidental drop.
By 2022, his hobby evolved into a full-blown obsession when he acquired his first Apple Silicon-based computer—a pink M1 MacBook Air. He still fondly remembers this laptop. After hours of watching reviews and deliberating whether to spend extra money on increasing RAM or storage, he ultimately chose the base model. It turned out to be the most impressive and capable computer he had ever owned, easily surpassing all previous Intel-based MacBook Pros.
Since then, he has accumulated a modest debt in equipment, constantly upgrading his arsenal of technology. Over the past years, he has acquired two drones, a DJI Osmo Nano action camera, which became his favorite camera, a Sony ZV-E10 4K camera, added an iPad A16 to his workflow, and eventually upgraded to the elegant 15-inch M5 MacBook Air.
His story with smartphones was not straightforward. Starting with early Apple devices like the iPhone 5s, he switched to Huawei around 2015, and subsequently used various Xiaomi and Huawei models. However, last August, he decided to return to the ecosystem, signing a new contract for the iPhone 16e. Despite being a base model in the 16 series, its seamless integration with the rest of Apple's hardware proved fantastic.
As a fully certified and uncompromising tech enthusiast, and a recently appointed technical editor at IOL since early October, he feels he is exactly where he wants to be.
