Atletico defeats Manchester United, while Viking prevents Bayern's Champions League victory

Atletico Madrid defeated Manchester United 2-0 in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, continuing the 'Red Devils'' unsuccessful run. Meanwhile, in Norway, Viking Stavanger managed to draw with Bayern Munich 3-3.

Atletico Madrid 2-0 Manchester United

Atletico, who lost to Liverpool in their first European match, took the lead in the Spanish capital thanks to a goal from Pablo Barrios in the first minute. Later in the first half, Alejandro Grimaldo hit the frame of the goal from a free kick.

The goal by Jonny Cardoso before the break was disallowed, but Ademola Lukman scored Atletico's second goal in the 79th minute after United defender Lenny Joro was sent to the technical area. This defeat worsened the disappointing start of the club from Old Trafford and increased pressure on manager Michael Carrick.

The team has played five matches without a win and won only one out of seven games. The next Champions League match will be a trip to Italy against Como. Carrick told Amazon Prime broadcaster: 'Today (Tuesday) is a one-day game, it's the Champions League and a difficult place to travel to. We are doing some things normally.'

Viking Stavanger 3-3 Bayern Munich

Viking, who entered the Champions League after winning its first Norwegian title in 34 years, seemed headed for a big victory over Bayern, leading 2-0 in Stavanger in the first half. Gianni Stenss opened the scoring with a header in the second minute, and Peter Christiansen increased the team's advantage.

Harry Kane equalized with a penalty early in the second half, and then scored his eighth goal of the season in nine matches across all tournaments. After this, Luis Dias changed the course of the match, but Michael Olise from Bayern was sent off in the 74th minute—the French star received a yellow card and then a second one seconds later for kicking the ball at an opponent.

As a result, he will miss the home match next week against Arsenal. Viking achieved a memorable draw when Hermann Haugen scored with a header in the last minute. Kane, speaking to Amazon Prime, noted that Olise 'will be upset and must take responsibility. It was a mistake, and mistakes happen. He must learn from it. It is frustrating because we have important games ahead.'

Arsenal 3-0 Lille

Arsenal proved too strong for Lille, as the Premier League champions secured a convincing 3-0 victory at Emirates Stadium. Goals from Jurrien Timber, Eberechi Eze, and Bukayo Saka were scored within eight minutes of the second half.

Barcelona 4-1 Galatasaray

Barcelona, one of the tournament favorites, maintained its perfect record this season by defeating Galatasaray 4-1 in Istanbul. Russian player Alexey Batrakov opened the scoring against the Turkish champions, after which another goal was disallowed, but Joao Cancelo equalized before halftime.

Then Lamine Yamal demonstrated skill, setting up goals for Fermin Lopez and Anthony Gordon early in the second half, and substitute Karim Adeemi sealed the Barça victory.

Club Brugge 4-3 Inter

Italian-German forward Nicolò Trezeguet scored a hat-trick, including a penalty, as Club Brugge secured an impressive 4-3 away victory against Inter at San Siro. Romeo Vermant scored the second goal for the Belgians, while Lautaro Martinez struck twice at Inter, who suffered their second consecutive defeat in Europe.

In other matches, Villarreal managed to bounce back and beat Napoli 3-1 in Spain, and RB Leipzig defeated PSV Eindhoven 1-0 thanks to a goal from Bryan Grody, after Ivan Perisic failed to convert a penalty for the Dutch team. Sporting from Portugal won 2-0 away against Lens in France with goals from Luis Suarez and Issa Doumbia. For Sabah, it was an unforgettable evening when the Azerbaijani underdogs beat Slavia Prague 2-0 in Baku. Jamaican international Kakim Harris and Rwandan Joy-Lens Mickels secured their first group stage win. Wednesday's Champions League matches include reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain versus Manchester City and Real Madrid versus Roma.
