50,000 new surveillance cameras planned for Delhi to enhance women's safety

The government plans to install 50,000 new surveillance cameras in the capital to strengthen the safety of both women and ordinary citizens. This initiative was announced by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during a meeting with representatives of the student council of women's colleges on Monday. Officials clarified on Tuesday that the goal of this program is to improve the security system in the capital.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the government is taking multi-level steps to ensure women's safety. These measures include identifying and eliminating dark spots, installing street lighting on roads, regular police patrols, and deploying female police officers in college campuses.

Representatives of students from women's colleges in Delhi University raised questions regarding video surveillance systems. In response, the Chief Minister announced plans to install 50,000 new cameras in the capital. She also assured that a maintenance system would be organized for these cameras, including signing an Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) to ensure constant inspection and repair, promptly addressing malfunctions.

Furthermore, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta shared plans to implement smart street lighting in the capital. The new lamps will be integrated with the Integrated Command and Control System. This system will allow for automatic detection of faults in streetlights, after which contractors will be obliged to repair faulty lamps under the annual service contract.

All these government plans are aimed at increasing the safety of public places in Delhi and improving nighttime illumination.
