Sigma Advanced Systems and Munitions India sign agreement on artillery technology development

Sigma Advanced Systems Limited announced on Wednesday the signing of an exclusive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Munitions India Limited (MIL). This agreement provides for the integration, domestic production, and supply of 155mm artillery shells with trajectory correction capabilities, as well as related components, subsystems, and technologies.

The goal of this collaboration is to develop indigenous capabilities in high-precision artillery ammunition and support the current critical programs of the Indian Armed Forces through localization, development, and integration of advanced defense technologies.

Trajectory correction technology allows artillery projectiles to make adjustments to their path during flight, which enhances accuracy and operational efficiency. Sigma noted that building internal potential in this area can strengthen India's defense technology ecosystem and reduce dependence on imported solutions.

As part of the partnership, Sigma intends to facilitate technology transfer, skill development, local manufacturing, and the integration of advanced trajectory correction solutions in India. The Course Correction Guidance Kit will be used for technological interaction, which the company described as a mature solution utilized by international customers.

This initiative is also aimed at advancing Sigma up the value chain in the defense sector—from manufacturing precision equipment and subsystems to developing and integrating complex defense systems. It is planned to combine international technological expertise with India's manufacturing and engineering capabilities to meet the needs of the Indian Armed Forces.

Sunil Kalidindi, CEO of Sigma Advanced Systems, stated that this collaboration with Munitions India Limited represents a significant step forward in developing indigenous capabilities for high-precision artillery guidance in India. Kalidindi emphasized that the companies aim to combine course correction guidance technology with MIL's manufacturing capacities and Sigma's strengths in engineering and program execution to build internal potential in this segment. Furthermore, the cooperation is intended to create opportunities that can help meet the requirements of the Indian defense department, including securing critical military programs.
