A heartbreaking story has emerged from the Sabulpur Diara area in Sonpur district, Bihar, reflecting the challenges of the healthcare system and the hopelessness of a low-income family. It concerns an 18-month-old child named Lav-Kush. The child's father, Subhash Kumar, claims that due to an illness, his one-and-a-half-year-old son's head weight has increased to nearly 10 kilograms, yet the exact cause of the disease remains undetermined despite visits to numerous major hospitals.
According to Subhash Kumar, the child was completely healthy at birth in 2025. However, just seven days after being born, his condition began to deteriorate rapidly. Initially, the family consulted local doctors, but since there was no improvement, they traveled to large hospitals in Patna seeking assistance.
The family first showed their child at PMCH (Patna Medical College and Hospital), then went to IGIMS, and subsequently to AIIMS Patna. Furthermore, they consulted at Tripolia Hospital and several private doctors. Nevertheless, relatives state that they have not yet managed to receive satisfactory treatment or a clear explanation for the illness.
While little Lav-Kush battles a serious illness daily, financial problems stand as an insurmountable wall for his parents. Subhash Kumar works as a porter. Due to living in the Diara area, his income is also affected by natural disasters such as floods and crop failure. All their savings have been spent on constant hospital trips, examinations, and purchasing medicine, leaving the family with no money even for further treatment.
The helpless father, Subhash Kumar, is appealing to the Bihar government, the health department, and the local administration for aid. The family insists that the administration take action, form a medical commission to examine the child with specialists, and provide financial support to ensure proper treatment.
