Uzbekistan and Turkey reached an agreement to continue efforts to increase bilateral trade, eliminate trade barriers, and improve market access for goods from both countries.
Discussions on these issues took place at the second meeting of the Uzbekistan-Turkey working group on trade, which was held in Ankara. The delegation from Uzbekistan was headed by Inomjon Abdurakhmonov, head of the department of the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan. Turkey was represented by Husnu Dilemre, head of the Department of the Ministry of Trade.
One of the central points of the agenda was achieving a target level of bilateral trade amounting to 5 billion US dollars. Participants discussed ways to eliminate tariff and non-tariff restrictions, as well as expanding market access for agricultural products, electrical equipment, and light industry goods.
Special attention was paid to technical regulation and standardization, mutual recognition of conformity certificates, and simplification of customs procedures. The parties agreed to establish a technical working group on the trade of electrical engineering products.
Furthermore, participants held consultations regarding the expansion of the Preferential Trade Agreement to create additional opportunities for exporters in both countries. A corresponding protocol was signed following the meeting.
The parties also agreed to work on signing a document that will expand this agreement during the upcoming Organization of Turkic States summit in Ankara.
