How to keep the bathroom warm in winter: 6 simple ways without using heaters

With the start of the winter season, visiting the bathroom early in the morning can feel like a punishment. Cold tiles, cool air in the bathroom even after the water heater has worked, and chills after bathing often make people avoid taking a shower. This is especially true for small children and the elderly, as bathing in a cold bathroom on cold days can pose a health risk.

However, you do not need to worry. You can make your bathroom very warm, safe, and cozy by using several small smart tricks without increasing electricity bills or installing expensive heaters. Below are the simplest and most effective ways to raise the temperature in the bathroom during severe frost.

Ways to make the bathroom warm and cozy

The following items can be used to improve conditions: non-slip mats made of microfiber or rubber (thick), insulated or heavy plastic/fabric shower curtains, warm-toned LED lamps (yellow or warm light), cotton towels and a towel rack, as well as silicone sealant or ventilation plugs (to prevent drafts).

Firstly, before showering, you should create a steam barrier: turn on hot water from the water heater 2-3 minutes before bathing and direct it into the shower or tub, while completely closing the bathroom door and window. The steam from the hot water will spread throughout the room, instantly raising the temperature and eliminating icy air.

Secondly, thick non-slip mats made of microfiber or with a rubber base should be placed on cold tiles. This helps prevent the feeling of cold when stepping on the floor, which remains the coldest spot in the bathroom, especially near the sink and shower area.

Thirdly, to prevent cold air from entering, install a heavy shower curtain that separates the shower area from the rest of the bathroom. When you are showering, keep the curtain closed; this allows the hot water vapor to concentrate in one area, preventing external cold air from reaching your body.

Furthermore, it is necessary to block icy air from windows and vents. In winter, cold air constantly enters through the extractor fan or ventilation openings. During bathing, it is recommended to install adjustable dampers on the fan or carefully seal gaps in the windows so that outside air does not enter.

It is also worth changing the lighting: white and blue fluorescent lamps create a feeling of greater coolness. In winter, it is better to use lamps with warm white (yellow) light. This not only gives the bathroom a cozier look but also creates a slight feeling of warmth.

Finally, it is important to keep towels dry. The greatest cold is felt on wet skin after bathing. Store your towel outside the bathroom or use a special towel warmer. Drying your body with a dry and slightly warm towel immediately after getting out of the shower will help prevent the feeling of cold.
