Hyundai reveals Bayon with hybrid versions, competitor to VW Tera and Fiat Pulse

The new generation of the Hyundai Bayon SUV, which will be manufactured in Brazil starting next year, had its design presented at the Paris Motor Show this week. This vehicle is positioned below the Creta and will compete in the Brazilian market against models such as Volkswagen Tera, Fiat Pulse, Renault Kardian, and Jeep Avenger.

According to Jornal do Carro, Hyundai plans to use the 2027 Women's World Cup, held in Brazil, as a launch platform, following a similar model used with the i20 during this year's men's World Cup.

The Bayon has modernized significantly compared to its first generation, launched in Europe in 2021, abandoning its previous discreet look and adopting the same design language seen in the new Tucson. Visual features include tapered daytime running lights at the front, a higher hood, and prominent fenders.

An important new feature is the introduction of the N Line sporty version, which comes with an exclusive aerodynamic kit, 18-inch wheels, dual exhaust, red stitching details, and metallic pedals.

In terms of dimensions, the Bayon measures 4.25 meters in length, with the wheelbase extended by 2 centimeters to 2.6 meters, and offers a trunk capacity of 440 liters.

Available options include two 12.3-inch monitors, a panoramic sunroof, Bose sound system, ventilated seats, and the Digital Key 2 digital key functionality, which allows the car to be started and unlocked via mobile phone.

In the European market, the SUV will be available with three-cylinder 1.0 turbo engines, offering power outputs of 90 hp or 115 hp. These engines can be paired with six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmissions.

The biggest innovation presented is the inclusion of the line's first hybrid version. This version uses a 1.6 hybrid engine that generates 138 hp, eliminating the need for external recharging. It employs a six-speed dual-clutch transmission and allows the driver to modulate energy regeneration during braking through butterflies located behind the steering wheel.

Bayon sales in Europe are scheduled to begin in early 2027. For the version intended for the national market, expectations point to the 115 hp and 17.5 kgfm 1.0 turbo flex engine, already known in the i20 and Creta models. Hyundai has not yet released definitive information on powertrains, versions, prices, or the arrival of the hybrid option in the country.
