Apple announced on Tuesday, the 13th, four new additions intended to expand its smart home ecosystem. Among the launches are HomeView, a 7-inch screen equipped with a voice assistant; the new Apple TV 4K; the second generation of HomePod mini; and the line of accessories called Apple Home Collection.
These products are designed to integrate various functionalities related to entertainment, communication, security, and home automation. A central element of these announcements is Siri AI, the updated version of the virtual assistant, which utilizes Apple Intelligence. It has capabilities to answer questions, access personal data in compatible apps, and manage connected devices.
HomeView Details
HomeView stands out as the most prominent launch among the presented devices. This device features a 7-inch Liquid Retina display and can be mounted on a surface or affixed to the wall. It consolidates functions such as making calls via FaceTime, playing music, displaying messages and calendars, in addition to allowing control of home accessories.
The screen can identify up to six users, allowing for personalization of the experience for each resident. Integrating Siri AI, it can also answer questions and use information from apps like Messages and Calendar, provided it is paired with an iPhone or iPad compatible with Apple Intelligence. Additionally, the device allows viewing camera feeds, adjusting temperature, controlling lighting, and locking doors.
Apple TV 4K Updates
Apple also promoted an update to the Apple TV 4K, which now incorporates the A19 chip. According to the company, this component provides up to 50% superior CPU performance and up to twice the graphics power compared to the previous generation. The model received built-in microphones for voice commands without needing the remote control, and searching for movies and series through Siri AI is displayed full screen.
The new Apple TV 4K also acts as a command center for the connected home. With compatible accessories, the user can receive doorbell alerts directly on the television, check who is at the door, and operate devices without interrupting the content being displayed. Furthermore, it is possible to set up a surround sound system using four HomePod mini 2 or second-generation HomePods, provided they are used in corresponding pairs.
HomePod mini 2 News
The second generation of the HomePod mini has also been equipped with Siri AI, although this feature is scheduled to be released through a future software update. This speaker uses the S10 chip and offers audio playback optimized for various environments, including the Sound Glow feature, which makes the top of the device emit lights synchronized with the music.
The HomePod mini 2 can serve as a speaker for Mac computers and, together with the new Apple TV 4K, participate in a surround sound setup with four compatible units. The device also allows executing automations, such as turning off lights or regulating the thermostat, via voice commands for connected accessories.
Apple Home Collection Line
Finally, the Apple Home Collection groups internal and external cameras, a video doorbell, smart locks, thermostats, and humidity and temperature sensors. This line was developed in collaboration with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric, and can be configured simply by tapping on the iPhone, without the requirement of a separate app or account from the respective manufacturers.
The accessories are managed through the Home app and can operate together. Apple exemplifies a routine where the system adjusts the temperature, activates cameras, and locks the door as soon as the last resident leaves the premises. The collection also includes cameras with up to 2.5K resolution and a lock that can automatically unlock when a person approaches carrying a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch.
In terms of price and release date, the HomeView and its wall version cost US$ 299 each in the United States. Orders began on October 13th in selected markets, with availability expected on November 13th. The company guarantees that personal data and images captured by compatible cameras are protected by end-to-end encryption within Apple Home. Certain intelligent analysis and video history functionalities depend on a compatible iCloud+ subscription and devices that meet hardware and software requirements.
