Before Thabo Mloisan became a defender for Kaizer Chiefs, he was an avid fan, which led him to the club's luxurious headquarters in Towngate Village in Naturena with clear goals.
Mloisan joined Chiefs at the end of last season as a free agent from Stellenbosch, fulfilling a childhood dream since he was born and raised in Soweto—near the club's base. He spent his youth in the club's area before seeking more prosperous places, playing for the academies of Mamello Soundowns, All Stars, Maritzburg United, and Stellies.
Therefore, since realizing this dream this season, Mloisan has easily adapted, participating in five matches in the team's seven-match unbeaten run in the Betway Premier League.
Mloisan noted that it becomes clear from the outside how important the club is to him. He stated: 'I think when you look from the outside, you understand how important this club is to me. What made me love the club is that I only knew Kaizer Chiefs.'
He added that moving to the club where he grew up was an important step for him, as his love for the club motivates him to give his maximum on the field.
Growing up as a Chiefs supporter helped Mloisan transition into the team more easily, strengthening his desire to contribute to the team winning its first continental title and ending a 12-year drought in the league championship.
Speaking about his goals at the club, Mloisan said: 'Star, madoda, shiningka la ehaya (I long to win a star. We need it here, at home)'. He emphasized that they have a chance to qualify for it this season, and naturally, they want to win the league, which they have failed to do for a long time.
He also shared his deep attachment to the club, recalling how he used to go for tickets as a child. For him, this is an opportunity to write his own story and restore glory so that his name is among the players who brought happiness to the fans.
Despite Chiefs potentially remaining undefeated in the league, they are still trailing their fierce rivals, Soundowns and Orlando Pirates, who are in the leading group and met in the MTN8 match for the first trophy of the season, where the latter won. Nevertheless, Mloisan is satisfied with the team's progress.
Responding to the question about the team's improvement, Mloisan rated the progress as '100%'. He noted that the team is playing significantly better than last season, especially thanks to the strategy and system implemented by the coach. Acknowledging some draws, he is confident that the system is working.
Mloisan must help the team maintain momentum by providing solid defense against his former club, Stellies, in Tuesday night's league match at FNB Stadium (at 7:30 PM), which will be personally significant for him. He expressed gratitude to Stellies for the role they played in his career, as well as to Kaizer Chiefs for the opportunity to play for such a big club. He concluded that the next day would be emotional, but personally, it would be fun.
