On Monday, October 12, parts of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were affected by heavy rain and hail. These precipitation events provided relief from the heat for residents, as autumn began to bring some reduction in summer temperatures.
The weather conditions were accompanied by strong winds and reduced visibility on roads. In video materials published by Storm Centre, intense downpours worsened visibility for drivers, while strong winds accompanied the torrential rain. Hailstones were also observed bouncing off the road, and the sound of falling ice was audible on Al Watan Street and Hatta Road.
Another video from Storm Centre captured a man standing under hail with an umbrella. The strong wind turned the umbrella inside out and pressed it against the man.
Storm Centre shared video recordings showing how rain fell on Shakha in Ras Al Khaimah, the quiet tapping of the drops being audible from inside the car.
The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) had previously forecasted the probability of precipitation in Dubai, Sharjah, and Al Ain. Furthermore, the center issued a flash flood warning for some mountainous areas, strongly recommending that residents exercise caution during the rain and avoid areas susceptible to sudden flooding. This warning is valid from 15:30 to 21:00 on Monday, October 12.
