Gen Z Office Culture: Senior Employee Shares Issues with Junior Colleague

The arrival of Generation Z in corporate life has brought about significant changes in workplace culture. However, these transformations elicit mixed reactions: some support the changes, while others oppose them. Opinions are divided: some believe that members of Gen Z lack the proper approach to work, while others see positive shifts in the work environment.

Some individuals share their experiences working with members of Generation Z. Recently, one employee shared his experience interacting with a colleague from this generation.

On the Reddit platform, a user expressed dissatisfaction with the behavior of their Gen Z colleague. He described the young person's actions in the office that cause him concern and outlined the reasons for these problems in his post.

Firstly, the colleague often starts conversations with phrases like 'bro, what's going on?' immediately upon arriving at the office, without waiting for the other person to finish speaking. Although the user is not bothered by the address 'bro,' he is irritated by the constant interruption of conversations.

Secondly, there is a noted lack of attention to work. Despite managers and mentors repeatedly providing feedback to the colleague for improvement, he continues to work carelessly, which, in the user's opinion, indicates a flippant attitude toward office work.

Thirdly, the colleague jokes even during serious moments. Once, while they were resolving a serious work problem with the manager, the colleague interrupted and started joking about checking logs. The user believes that jokes are inappropriate in such situations because the team was engaged in solving an important task.

Another habit that concerns the user is voice modulation. Instead of a normal tone, the colleague deliberately tries to make his voice deeper, which makes it difficult to understand his speech and seems unnatural to the user.

Many users responded to this post, sharing their own experiences working with members of Generation Z. One commenter reported working with young employees who were enthusiastic about learning and possessed abilities. Others encountered those who considered themselves superior and showed no interest in work.

Another Reddit user shared an experience working with a junior colleague who was two levels below him. When he showed the junior colleague his unfinished work for review, the feedback he received seemed sharp and rude.

Yet another Reddit user advised that if a junior colleague does not properly accept feedback on their work, they should be informed about the possibility of starting a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP). This process gives the employee a chance to correct deficiencies in their work.
