Volkswagen has decided to commercialize its first fully electric vehicle in Brazil after a period of market testing using a subscription model. The ID.4 Pro 2027 model will be available at dealerships starting in October for the price of R$ 299,990, corresponding to the announced price for the new Tiguan, a combustion engine SUV that shares a similar position in the manufacturer's catalog.
This launch occurs in a scenario where mid-sized electric SUVs are becoming more affordable. This popularization has been driven by the arrival of Chinese vehicles, such as the Leapmotor B1o, C10, Geely EX5, and CAC Aion V, in addition to the Chevrolet Captiva EV, which is derived from a Wuling model.
Although the ID.4 was introduced in an environment more favorable to electric SUVs, it enters a market with established competitors. Additionally, its price of around R$ 300 thousand is not the most attractive, given that there are comparable models and various similar features available in the R$ 200 thousand range.
To attract consumers, the ID.4 has been updated and now features an electric motor generating 286 hp and 55.6 kgfm of torque, surpassing the previous powertrain of 204 hp and 31.6 kgfm. According to Inmetro, its declared range reaches 389 km.
The SUV is built on the modular electric MEB platform, featuring a length of 4.58 meters and a wheelbase of 2.77 meters. Its trunk has a capacity of 533 liters, and the cabin can accommodate five passengers.
The vehicle's battery has a capacity of 84 kWh. In DC mode, the system supports charging up to 185 kW, and Volkswagen reports that it takes 25 minutes to raise the charge from 10% to 80% on a 180 kW charger.
Equipment features include a 12.9-inch multimedia center, integrated navigation, wireless connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360-degree view camera, and triple air conditioning. The front seats are equipped with electric adjustments, memory, heating, and massage functions.
The driving assistance package includes adaptive cruise control with Stop&Go function, lane keeping assist, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, and blind spot monitoring. The model also features IQ.Light Matrix headlights and a parking system capable of memorizing maneuvers.
With the introduction of the ID.4, VW now offers two different SUVs at the same price. The Tiguan is also offered at the price of R$ 300 thousand, with the latter being sold in the R-Line version, which comes equipped with a 2.0L 350 TSI turbo engine producing 272 hp.
