A community developer of DeepSeek Harness has released the DS Bot plugin. This plugin transforms the open-source agent execution environment of DeepSeek into a collective of persistent bots with whom users can interact individually or in group chats. It is important to note that this project is not an official DeepSeek product.
The project was posted on GitHub by the developer under the pseudonym FeiZ. Within a day of its launch, the repository gained over 250 stars, and by October 11th, the total number of stars exceeded 450, according to QbitAI data.
DS Bot follows the DeepSeek Harness Design (DSH) principle, where all elements are plugins. Users can create bots by assigning each one a name, role description, instructions, avatar, and their own base model. Any model already configured in DSH can be used, although the author mentions the possibility of supporting local agents in the future. Although models can be changed at any time, the author advises sticking to one model per bot in the long term.
In response to rising token costs, the plugin includes a chief bot. Upon first launch, the default main bot named Chief is available. It possesses elevated privileges for creating and configuring other bots and group chats, and the author recommends performing configuration through dialogue with this bot. Furthermore, every group chat has an administrative bot that defaults to responding to the user and only involves other bots when necessary, rather than having every bot respond to every message. Nevertheless, users retain the ability to address a specific bot directly via mention.
Another focus is memory. Each bot is tied to its own DSH session with a unique working context. When a conversation exceeds the context window, DS Bot utilizes compression, data summarization, and local search mechanisms. Each bot stores memory files based on Markdown, there is a shared team memory, and after each turn, the model analyzes what should be saved, updated, or deleted. Memory can be edited either on the bot details page or by direct instruction to the bot.
The usage page provides a breakdown of token consumption by time, bot, and model. All data remains on the user's computer in the bot and sessions folders within the DSH home directory, and deleting the plugin does not lead to their loss. The project is licensed under Apache 2.0 and designated as a preliminary version v0.1, built upon DSH version 0.2.1-alpha.1.
Installation of DS Bot is done through the plugin panel in the DSH desktop application for Windows and macOS, or via the DSH web profile, which requires Node.js version 22.19 or newer and pnpm. The plugin joins the growing list of multi-agent plugins for DSH.
