The youth national team of Uzbekistan in Sambo demonstrated high results at the World Championship held in the Greek city of Thessaloniki. The team won a total of fifteen medals, including three gold, two silver, and ten bronze awards.
The competitions covered various age categories—cadets, juniors, and girls, as well as juniors and junior girls. In total, 55 sets of medals were distributed at the tournament, and athletes from over forty countries participated. Additionally, juniors took part in combat Sambo competitions.
One of the medalists from Uzbekistan was Islam Abdulzakirov, who won a gold medal among juniors in the weight category up to 71 kilograms. Ozodbek Ataev received a silver award in the category up to 64 kilograms, and Asadbek Matyakubov took third place in the weight up to 58 kilograms. In the combat Sambo discipline, Donierbek Muminov and Bakhtjan Mamutov won bronze medals.
On the final day of the tournament, the team continued to build its success: Akbarshokh Bibolatov won silver among cadets, while Gulnoza Matnazorova and Bakhtiyer Kaldiboyev received bronze awards. Thus, the team's overall result amounted to 15 medals: three gold, two silver, and ten bronze.
It is worth noting that previously, the Uzbekistan team had achieved success by winning two bronze medals at the World Championship in sports acrobatics, which was held in Italy.
