Dubai tests new autonomous transport system with capsules on dedicated routes

A four-week trial of a new electric autonomous transport system, which uses AI-based capsules and operates on specially designated routes in the Bluewaters area, has begun in Dubai.

The automated transport system, Dubai Glydways, is designed to provide on-demand transportation, allowing passengers to travel directly between departure and arrival points. Furthermore, it aims to improve connectivity at the initial and final stages of travel across the emirate.

Matar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai, marked the start of this trial by taking a five-minute ride in one of the autonomous vehicles along the designated route in Bluewaters.

RTA launches mobility lab in Dubai to test autonomous transport in Silicon Oasis

Dubai has opened a new facility in Dubai Silicon Oasis dedicated to testing autonomous mobility technologies. This move aligns with the emirate's efforts to transform future transportation concepts into usable road technologies.

Dubai's smart self-driving transport strategy aims to ensure that 25 percent of all trips across Dubai are autonomous by 2030.

The Dubai Mobility Labs, presented by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in collaboration with the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones (DIEZ), are designed to provide companies, developers, and research institutions with an environment for developing, testing, and certifying new mobility systems.

This facility is part of Dubai's broader initiative to establish itself as a global hub for future mobility, while simultaneously creating opportunities for specialized companies, researchers, and talent working on next-generation transport technologies.
