CSK makes major decision ahead of IPL 2027: Michael Hussey leaves the team

Ahead of IPL 2027, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise continues to make significant changes to its squad. Following the departures of Stephen Fleming and Eric Simmons, CSK has decided to terminate its relationship with its long-time batting coach, Michael Hussey.

Michael Hussey, a former Australian left-hander, had a long history of collaboration with CSK. He initially played for the team as a player, scoring memorable runs and helping the team secure victories. Later, in 2018, he joined the franchise as a batting coach and held this position continuously.

As part of a plan to change the coaching staff, the franchise announced the termination of Hussey's contract on Saturday. This raises the question of who will become the new batting coach for the Chennai team.

The Chennai Super Kings team is preparing for a completely new look. This season, the franchise has made several major reshuffles in its support staff. Earlier this year, the team ended its cooperation with Stephen Fleming, who was a long-time coach, and former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan was appointed in his place. Additionally, the bowling coach, Eric Simmons, was replaced by former Indian fast bowler Mohit Sharma. The future of fielding coach James Foster remains uncertain.

Michael Hussey's departure may be linked to English connections. His excellent relationship with Stephen Fleming is well known, and there are rumors that Hussey may soon head the England Test team as the new batting coach. Previously, Hussey played an important role in the England team's victory during the T20 World Cup 2022 as a consultant, and he is also the head coach of Welsh Fire in The Hundred tournament.
