In the second T20 match between India and West Indies, held in Ranchi, the game turned into a nightmare for the bowlers. More than 500 runs were scored in both innings during this match.
The Indian team set an impressive target of 250 runs, which the West Indies team managed to reach in just 18.3 overs. This match, filled with sixes and fours, caused significant irritation to the head coach of the Indian team, Gautam Gambhir, during the post-match press conference.
Expressing his displeasure, Gautam Gambhir sharply commented on the difficulties faced by bowlers in cricket. Specifically, he noted that in the West Indies innings, the batsmen scored 20 sixes and 21 fours, accumulating a total of 204 runs solely through boundaries.
Irritated, Gambhir questioned whether spectators did not want to see a fair contest between batsmen and bowlers, emphasizing that he and his team also desired a balanced fight. He defended the bowlers, criticizing the trend of endless run accumulation on flat pitches, asserting that bowlers are being ridiculed and their careers are at risk.
Gambhir stated that these bowlers represent their own team, not anyone else, and that they put in enormous effort to reach the dressing room. He added that if there is a balanced contest on the field, spectators will see the best form of cricket.
Gautam Gambhir also highly praised the performance of Mayank Yadav, the fast bowler for the Indian team. Mayank drew attention with his speed, taking 3 wickets while conceding 36 runs in 3 overs, with his ball speed consistently exceeding 145 km/h, and one delivery reaching 149.5 km/h. Gambhir commended him, noting that he is a fast bowler and should bowl with full force, as it is his duty as a fast player, which Mayank demonstrated.
