Three friends created a brand worth 100 crore by starting to sell chole bhature for just 9 rupees

The idea for a large business sometimes originates not from expensive equipment or offices, but from a simple love for food. This is what happened with three friends. Living in Bangalore, they felt a lack of authentic Delhi-style chole bhature and decided to bring this famous taste to the residents of Bangalore. The business 'Shyam Ji Chole Bhature' started with this thought. Initially, the friends offered a serving of chole bhature for only 9 rupees.

Over time, people liked their taste, and long queues of visitors began to gather at the shop.

Behind this story are three friends: Karan, Chetan, and Navjoti. They all missed the real Delhi-style chole bhature while living in Bangalore. They concluded that if it was difficult for them to find their favorite dish, it might be equally difficult for other city residents. The friends viewed this problem as a business opportunity and decided to create an entire brand that could offer people the taste of famous Delhi street food, instead of just opening a single outlet.

Before starting operations, the friends paid special attention to the quality of the taste. They traveled to Delhi and spent several weeks visiting various stalls to taste chole bhature. They studied the cuisine in areas like Old Delhi and Chandni Chowk, striving to convey the true taste of Delhi. Their goal was not just to sell chole bhature, but to ensure customers received exactly that taste. To achieve this, they studied the offerings of different establishments and found experienced chefs who mastered traditional cooking methods. However, this proved to be a difficult task since Bangalore is far from Delhi, and convincing chefs to relocate such a distance was challenging. Nevertheless, the friends gradually earned their trust and persuaded them to work with them.

Initially, the main focus was on chole bhature. But as the number of customers grew, the friends began adding other items to the assortment, such as chaat, sweets, lassi, and other North Indian dishes. This allowed customers to get a wide selection of favorite dishes in one place. The brand expanded its culinary offerings while maintaining the original concept. Currently, the brand sells over 50 thousand bhature monthly, demonstrating that even a common product like chole bhature can attract a large audience with the right presentation.

When launching the business, the friends paid great attention to pricing, deciding to sell a serving of chole bhature for only 9 rupees. The low price made the purchase and tasting accessible to a wide range of people. They envisioned two types of customers: people who had come from North India looking for a home taste, and residents of South India who had never tried authentic Delhi chole bhature before. The combination of a low price and unique taste attracted public attention, and gradually the queue at the shop began to grow, turning a simple food idea into a successful business.

The most significant aspect of this story is that the friends did not start with some completely new or exotic dish; chole bhature were already popular. Their success is based on delivering the taste of Delhi to Bangalore, attracting qualified chefs, and maintaining a low starting price.
