Scientists conducted the first-ever launch of a programmable quantum photonic processor designed to operate in near-Earth orbit. This processor was able to process quantum information directly in space.
This experiment represents a significant step toward developing satellite systems. Such satellites in the future will be able to analyze Earth remote sensing data directly in orbit, transmitting only the resulting data back to the planet's surface.
