The Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan, Khurshid Mustafayev, met with a delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on October 9, 2026, to discuss new areas of joint work.
The JICA delegation was headed by Katsura Miyazaki, Executive Vice President and Director General for Sustainable Development. The meeting was also attended by Masayoshi Takehara, Deputy Senior Director of JICA's Department for Central Asia, Eastern Europe, and the Caucasus; Yoshito Urano, Director of the Private Sector Development Group; Mamoru Sakai, Head of JICA's representative office in Uzbekistan, as well as other agency representatives.
The parties reviewed the current state of bilateral interaction and defined priorities for its further development. Main attention was paid to supporting Uzbekistan's socio-economic reforms, expanding technical assistance, and preparing potential joint projects.
A separate issue was the 'One Village, One Product' (OVOP) initiative, which aims to support local producers. Participants discussed opportunities to increase product processing and packaging, as well as promoting goods under local brands.
Furthermore, the parties exchanged views on the development of transport infrastructure, including road restoration, as well as the implementation of projects in the social sphere and human capital development. At the end of the meeting, participants agreed to continue working in the identified areas, expand consultations, and systematically develop cooperation between Uzbekistan and JICA.
