The City Council of People's Deputies approved the concept of acquiring another 14 trains for the Tashkent Metro. Each of these trains will consist of five carriages. The implementation of this project involves attracting funds from foreign governments and international financial organizations, with the completion of the purchase scheduled for the end of 2027.
Seven companies from different countries are participating in the competition, including China, Japan, Spain, France, Russia, Czechia, and South Korea. Among the most promising proposals are options from China's CRRC, the Russian company 'Global Transport Solutions,' and South Korea's Hyundai Rotem.
In terms of cost, the most budget-friendly option was offered by CRRC, estimated at approximately 169 million dollars. The purchase from Hyundai Rotem will cost about 184 million dollars, while the Russian company requested nearly 250 million. Choosing a Russian manufacturer allows avoiding the need to rebuild existing depots and infrastructure, but this will lead to increased loan servicing costs.
Currently, four-car sets operate in the Tashkent Metro. The option of purchasing six-car trains was excluded from consideration because the current platform length does not allow them to be accommodated, and reconstruction for this would require significant investment.
The new carriages are intended to improve reliability and increase transport capacity, as well as reduce repair costs and electricity consumption. It is planned that the new sets will be equipped with more powerful asynchronous motors instead of the direct current motors installed in older models.
It was previously known that the Tashkent Metro received 14 new sets, with a total capacity reaching 56 carriages, which allowed for an update of almost 70% of the rolling stock.
