BMW has presented the new BMW iX4, an all-electric coupe SUV capable of traveling up to 828 km on a single charge according to the European WLTP cycle. This range is considered sufficient to make the trip from São Paulo to Rio de Janeiro and back without needing a recharge.
This model succeeds the X4 and incorporates the Neue Klasse, which represents the manufacturer's new generation of electric vehicles, previously introduced by the iX3. The official launch is scheduled for March 2027, although arrival in Brazil may only occur in 2028, as the brand has not yet set definitive dates.
Technically, the BMW iX4 operates with an 800-volt electrical system, which doubles the voltage found in most current electric cars, in addition to using new cylindrical cell batteries. This allows the vehicle to accept charges of up to 400 kW in direct current.
According to BMW, just ten minutes connected to the charger are enough to restore up to 387 km of range in the 50 xDrive version, which has a 108.7 kWh battery. Additionally, the car features bidirectional charging, allowing it to return energy to the electrical grid.
One notable difference is the central computer called Heart of Joy, which the manufacturer claims is ten times faster than its predecessors and is responsible for coordinating the overall dynamics of the automobile. In terms of driving, the Motorway Assistant feature allows hands-free driving at speeds of up to 130 km/h in markets such as Germany, the United States, and Japan.
The vehicle's interior is equipped with a 17.9-inch central screen, a 3D head-up display, and information projections distributed across the entire width of the windshield base.
Specifications vary by version: the 40 xDrive version delivers 374 horsepower and 53.0 kgfm of torque, reaching 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and offering a range of up to 638 km. The 50 xDrive version has 469 hp and 65.8 kgfm, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. The top-of-the-line M60 xDrive reaches 612 hp and 89.2 kgfm, completing the 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in 3.9 seconds and reaching a top speed of 240 km/h.
The M60 xDrive version features yellow headlights inspired by race cars and a rear differential with electronic locking. It is worth mentioning that the BMW iX3, which shares the same platform, is already available in the Brazilian market for R$ 582,950, offering a range of 570 km according to Inmetro.
