Wet weather is forecast for parts of the Western, Northern, and Eastern Cape on Friday. South Africans can expect a generally cool Friday, with forecasts of rain and thunderstorms in some areas of the Western and Northern Cape, while extremely high fire danger persists in one part of the Northern Cape.
According to the South African Weather Service, no severe weather warnings based on impact were issued for Friday, October, however, conditions of extremely high fire danger are expected in the Ubuntu Municipality in the Northern Cape.
The precipitation forecast shows a 30% chance of isolated showers or thunderstorms in many areas of the Western Cape, extending to parts of the Northern Cape and western Eastern Cape. This probability increases to 60% along the southern coast in the Garden Route area and adjacent territories, where scattered rainfall is expected.
Western Cape to Face a Wet Friday
Cloudy and cool to warm weather is expected in the Western Cape, with patches of morning fog in the southwest. Isolated rains and thunderstorms are forecast in many parts of the province, corresponding to a 30% chance of rain, while the northwest should remain partly cloudy.
The situation will be wetter in the southeast, where scattered rains and downpours are expected, and the chance of precipitation will increase to approximately 60%. Moderate or fresh southwesterly winds are expected along the coast, and the UV index will be very high.
Fire Danger Affects Part of the Northern Cape
The Northern Cape will be partly cloudy, windy, and cool to warm, with isolated rains and thunderstorms expected in the central parts of the province. The probability of rain in these areas is about 30%, but dry and dangerous conditions remain a problem elsewhere.
SAWS has warned of extremely high fire danger in the Ubuntu Municipality, increasing the risk of rapidly spreading veld fires.
Eastern Cape Ready for Rain
The western half of the Eastern Cape will see a mix of cloudy, clear, and warm weather, with isolated rains appearing in some places. Rain will become scattered west of Gqeberha and along some coastal sections, with the precipitation chart indicating chances up to 60% in some southwestern coastal areas.
The eastern half of the province will be cloudy in the southwest and partly cloudy and warm elsewhere, although cooler conditions are expected in the northern areas.
Gauteng to Remain Dry and Cool
Gauteng is expected to avoid Friday's rains; patches of morning fog are forecast in the southwest, followed by partly cloudy and cool weather. No precipitation is anticipated for the province, and the UV index will be high.
The North West will also remain cloudy and cool, while Free State can expect partly cloudy and cool weather.
Isolated Rains in Mpumalanga and Limpopo
Mpumalanga will be partly cloudy and cool to warm, with fog in some areas and isolated rains mainly confined to Lowveld. Limpopo will experience patches of morning fog over the central areas before settling into partly cloudy and cool to warm weather. Isolated rains are also expected in Lowveld, where the precipitation chart indicates a 30% chance of rain.
KwaZulu-Natal to See Morning Rains
KwaZulu-Natal will start Friday with foggy patches in inland areas, while isolated morning rains are expected in the northeast, with a 30% chance of precipitation in affected areas. The rest of the province will be partly cloudy and cool to warm.
Moderate or fresh easterly or northeasterly winds are expected along the coast, becoming strong in some places south of Richards Bay. The UV index will be very high.
Overall, the wettest conditions on Friday are expected in the southern parts of the country, especially in the Western Cape and western Eastern Cape, while most of the central and northeastern inland areas will remain cool and mostly dry.
