Amazon Great Indian Festival opens with a record 100% increase in orders

Amazon announced on Thursday that the Amazon Great Indian Festival (AGIF) 2026 launched with the biggest opening in history, as customers in India ordered more than twice as many items compared to the previous year. The sale began for all buyers at midnight on October 8th.

Customers from all postal codes across India have already placed orders for smartphones, consumer electronics, fashion items, cosmetics, home and kitchen goods, and daily necessities. Amazon called this opening day the most active in the history of this sales event.

Millions of listings were delivered to customers within a few hours. In over 120 cities served by Amazon Now, one of two products was delivered in just minutes.

Words from Amazon India Vice President

Saurabh Srivastava, Vice President of Amazon India, noted that early trends of AGIF 2026 exceeded the company's most optimistic expectations. He stated a record 100 percent increase in orders. According to him, residents of India, from large cities to small towns, prefer to shop on Amazon.in to get the best deals, the widest assortment, and fast delivery.

It was also noted that one out of two customers utilized installment plans (EMI), and one in every three purchased items received cashback. Prime members saved over 100 percent compared to last year thanks to special offers available only to Prime, which are featured in the most extensive selection of goods.

Sales of premium Android smartphones grew by 70 percent year-over-year, with products such as Apple iPhone 16 and Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra leading. MacBook Neo sales were 65 times higher than on a normal day, and premium security devices sold 80 times faster than a normal day, with Garmin, Apple, Samsung, and Amazfit being the leaders.

Sales of home entertainment goods increased 77 times; televisions of 55 inches or larger accounted for 65 percent of total TVs sold. High-end home theater systems sold 100 times more than usual in the first 12 hours, and there was also a surge in sales of major home appliances.

Fashion apparel sales reached seven times the volume compared to a normal day, with footwear selling at a rate of seven pairs per second. In the first 12 hours on Amazon.in, one out of four purchased items was a beauty product. Premium skincare and haircare sold over 150 units per minute, five times the normal pace. Luxury fragrances sold at 12 units per minute, four times more than a typical day. Air fryers and air purifiers sold 30 times more than on a normal day.

Amazon's Largest Sale Starts October 8; Information on Early Access for Prime Members

The largest sale on the e-commerce platform Amazon, known as the Great Indian Festival Sale, is scheduled to begin on October 8. However, Amazon Prime subscribers can take advantage of this sale one day earlier than other users.

This allows buyers to purchase desired items and take advantage of special offers before stocks run out. Regular users will only be able to start shopping from October 8.

Although the official start of the Great Indian Festival Sale is set for October 8, Amazon Prime subscribers will be given early access to the sale 24 hours in advance. This means that Prime members can view and purchase deals available during the sale starting at midnight on October 7.

This implies that if a buyer finds it advantageous to purchase a phone, laptop, TV, or any other item at a good price, they do not have to wait until October 8; they can make the purchase as early as the night of October 7. Information about early access was published by Amazon on its official website.

The main advantage of early access is the ability to get to promotions before other users. During the sale, significant discounts are offered on many popular items, and some offers are limited by stock quantity.

Thus, if a person is expecting to buy a specific phone, electronics, or another item, early access can be very useful. It will allow them to acquire the necessary product before competitors, reducing concerns about the item running out. Nevertheless, before purchasing any item, it is recommended to check its price and the terms of the promotion, as various bank offers, exchange promotions, and coupons are often available during the sale, and checking all these conditions before making a final choice will be beneficial.

Previously, in September, Amazon reported that Amazon Now's annual gross merchandise value in India exceeded $1 billion over the preceding three-month period. The company's plans include expanding the service to over 300 cities and creating what it calls the largest 'minutes delivery' network in India.

The company specified that its overall fulfillment system is capable of delivering tens of thousands of items within hours, over a million items per day for next-day delivery, and millions more through Prime delivery.

As part of the Amazon Great Indian Festival, starting on October 8th, Amazon Now will also offer special promotions. Customers can receive discounts on smartphones, electronics, fashion, cosmetics, and home goods. SBI cardholders can avail an instant 10% discount on eligible transactions, while Prime members will receive additional discounts of up to 10%.
