The Government of India is preparing to release the National Action Plan for Small-Scale Fisheries, which aims to coordinate the development of this sector. The goal of this plan is to achieve the national target of increasing seafood exports to 1 lakh crore rupees by 2030.
Currently, various policies and programs exist in India covering numerous aspects of small-scale fisheries. The National Plan of Action (NPOA-SSF) intends to consolidate these separate directions into a single, measurable, and collaborative national framework. This framework will contain clearly defined priorities, areas of responsibility, necessary resources, and monitoring mechanisms.
Fisheries and related activities provide livelihoods for approximately 30 million fishermen in India.
