The number of doctors per 10 thousand residents in Uzbekistan is less than 30

Uzbekistan is showing a trend of increasing the number of medical workers: about five thousand new specialists entered the profession over the past year. As of the beginning of 2026, there were over 112 thousand doctors working in the country, which corresponds to an average of 29.4 doctors per ten thousand population.

According to information from the National Statistical Committee, as of January 1, 2026, more than 112.4 thousand doctors were registered in medical institutions in Uzbekistan. This exceeds the 2024 figure by 4.9 thousand people, reflecting an increase of 4.6%.

Among the medical staff, men predominate, numbering almost 60.3 thousand, which accounts for 53.6% of the total. Women make up 52.1 thousand, or 46.4% of all specialists.

Furthermore, Uzbekistan plans to train future doctors taking into account the actual needs of various regions and hospitals. Educational programs will place greater emphasis on practical training, and the residency system will be replaced by the residency program.
