Thane Station Recognized as Busiest in India, Receiving 9.3 Crore Passengers in a Year

Indian Railways transports 24 million people daily and is known as the safest way to travel. The number of people moving between railway stations is in the millions. This raises the question of which station is the busiest or receives the most visitors in the country.

The railway network, stretching from Mumbai suburban lines to major routes like Delhi-Howrah, transports a large volume of freight daily. In this regard, the railway published a list of the 100 stations with the highest number of passengers for 2023-24.

According to this list, Thane station ranks first, having received 9.3 crore passengers. Kalyan station is second with 8.3 crore passengers. Haveda station took third place, receiving 6.1 crore passengers. Additionally, Mumbai CSMT and Sealdah stations each received 5.1 crore passengers.

The top ten leaders also include Panvel (4.6 crore passengers) at sixth place, New Delhi (3.9 crore passengers) at seventh, Tambaram (3.2 crore passengers) at eighth, Dadar (3.2 crore passengers) at ninth, and MGR Chennai Central (3.05 crore passengers) at tenth.

There are many very busy stations in the Mumbai area. Thane, Kalyan, Mumbai CSMT, Panvel, and Dadar are among the top 10, indicating a high frequency of long-distance train travel from Mumbai. Mumbai Central station ranked 16th with approximately 2.20 crore passengers.

Among the stations that have received more than 10 million passengers are Tirupati (1.37 crore), Kanpur Central (1.33 crore), Visakhapatnam (1.33 crore), Gorakhpur (1.30 crore), Tiruvantapuram Central (1.27 crore), Bhubaneswar (1.22 crore), Anand Vihar Terminal (1.22 crore), Bhopal (1.20 crore), Varanasi (1.15 crore), Kochi (1.14 crore), Matura Junction (1.03 crore), Coimbatore (1.02 crore), Nagpur (1.02 crore), and Bandra Junction (1.01 crore).
