A prospective cohort study conducted by Tiia Saarinen and her colleagues from Oulu University revealed a link between early menopause and a higher prevalence of anxiety symptoms among women.
The study utilized data from 2632 women belonging to the Finnish Birth Cohort 1966 (NFBC1966). For these participants, menopause was recorded at the age of 46.
Researchers assessed levels of anxiety and depression using the standardized instrument HSCL-25, and also collected information on the prescription of psychotropic drugs from relevant registries. Binary logistic regression was used to analyze the relationship between psychiatric manifestations and menopause.
The results obtained were officially published in the scientific journal Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica.
