Microsoft has unveiled the Surface Laptop Ultra, its most powerful laptop to date, detailing its release date and price. This new device will launch on October 16th, with an initial price set at US$ 2,599, which is equivalent to approximately R$ 14.1 thousand.
The basic configuration of this model features an 18-core processor, 24 GB of RAM, and 512 GB of storage. Interested parties can already pre-order the Surface Laptop Ultra.
The development of the Surface Laptop Ultra aims to compete in the premium notebook segment, designed to meet demands requiring high performance. This includes using creative software, gaming, and running artificial intelligence (AI) models directly on the device itself.
The equipment incorporates the new RTX Spark chip, which operates on an Arm-based architecture and has the capacity to support up to 128 GB of unified memory. Both Microsoft and Nvidia position these notebooks with the chip in the highest price range of the market, especially targeting local AI workloads.
A notable feature of the new laptop is the charging method. Microsoft introduced Magnetic Connect, a system that uses a magnetic connection integrated into a USB-C port. This cable magnetically attaches to the port located on the right side of the computer.
According to Pavan Davuluri, who holds the position of Head of Windows and Surface, the connection is automatic just by bringing the connector close. This solution recalls the old Surface Connect, an exclusive magnetic charger that Microsoft discontinued in smaller Surface line models last year. The main difference is that, in the Surface Laptop Ultra, the magnetic system uses a USB-C port.
Even though it is a proprietary connection system, the USB-C port maintains its normal functionality for video transmission, data transfer, and connection with other USB-C peripherals when the charger is not connected.
The RTX Spark is highlighted as one of the pillars of the Surface Laptop Ultra because it was specifically created to manage games, creative tasks, and locally running AI models. The combination of the processor with the possibility of up to 128 GB of unified memory places this laptop in the category intended for users who require great computational power without solely depending on cloud processing.
Deliveries of the Surface Laptop Ultra will begin on October 16th, while pre-orders are already available. The news about the launch was initially published by Olhar Digital.
