Uzbekistan and Latvia Discuss Logistics and New Projects During Business Mission

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan held a meeting with a delegation of Latvian entrepreneurs who arrived in the country as part of a business mission.

These negotiations took place ahead of the Uzbek-Latvian business forum, scheduled for October 8 in Tashkent, according to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan. The Latvian delegation included representatives from the transport and logistics, agriculture, investment, chemical industry, modern technologies, certification, and green energy sectors.

One of the central topics of discussion was the creation of an Uzbek-Latvian logistics hub based in the Port of Riga. The parties also examined opportunities for combining exporters and importers from both countries, as well as the potential for joint entry into third-country markets.

Agricultural projects occupied another significant part of the discussions. Participants studied prospects for cooperation in the field of agricultural product processing, growing and freezing fruits and berries, greenhouse construction, as well as biogas and organic fertilizer production.

Significant attention was paid to the issue of certification. The Latvian side presented opportunities for partnership with a local testing and certification center that has over one hundred and fifteen years of experience. Potential cooperation could include establishing a joint venture or opening a branch.

Entrepreneurs from Latvia were also presented with opportunities to enter the European market within the SPS+ system. Furthermore, the parties discussed prospects for interaction in the fields of startups, venture investments, and information technology.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to hold an online conference involving Uzbek entrepreneurs to discuss certification issues. The parties also agreed to maintain regular dialogue on priority areas of cooperation. The next stage of bilateral business interaction will be the business forum to be held in Tashkent on October 8.

The Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan held discussions on transport and logistics cooperation with a delegation of Latvian businesses. The goal of the meetings was to increase transit traffic and more actively utilize the transport and logistics potential of both countries, according to the Uzbek Ministry of Transport.

The meeting took place on October 6. The delegation from Latvia was headed by Evija Dumpe, a representative of the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in Uzbekistan.

During the negotiations, the parties considered prospects for further development of interaction between Uzbekistan and Latvia in the field of transport and logistics. Special attention was paid to increasing transit flows and improving the efficiency of using the transport systems of the two states.

Entrepreneurs from Latvia expressed interest in creating new logistics hubs on the territory of Uzbekistan. According to their proposal, such centers could be used to organize the supply of Uzbek products to the markets of China and other Asian countries.

Furthermore, the possibility of using Uzbekistan as a route for delivering goods from Asian countries to the markets of Latvia and other European states was discussed. The Latvian side also presented a number of proposals for developing cooperation in the field of rail and air transport.

Participants discussed promising areas of joint work concerning the expansion of transport corridors and the increase in cargo transportation capabilities between Central Asia, Asia, and Europe.

Uzbekistan and Russia held a meeting to discuss trade and joint projects

The 27th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Uzbekistan and Russia took place in Fergana on October 6. The parties discussed expanding trade ties, implementing joint projects, energy cooperation, as well as scientific and technical relations.

The delegation from Uzbekistan was headed by Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjayev, while Russia was represented by First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov. Opening the meeting, Jamshid Khodjayev noted that the agenda for bilateral cooperation has expanded compared to the previous commission meeting. He emphasized that the intergovernmental commission plays an important role in the practical implementation of agreements reached by the heads of the two states.

Among the most important tasks was timely execution of agreed projects and making decisions on issues requiring joint action. Jamshid Khodjayev also pointed out the complementarity of the two economies as the basis for developing trade partnership.

In the first eight months of 2026, trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Russia increased by 10%. The strategic goal of the leaders of both countries remains unchanged—to bring bilateral trade to 30 billion US dollars.

In 2026, the parties plan to complete 17 joint projects with a total value of 350 million US dollars. These projects cover the chemical industry, agricultural product processing, and metalworking.

Energy interaction became one of the key points on the agenda. In particular, the construction of a nuclear power plant in the Jizzakh region, training national specialists, and localizing the production of equipment and services were discussed.

Participants also noted the growth in tourist exchanges: in 2025, nearly a million Russian tourists visited Uzbekistan. Following the meeting, the parties signed the Protocol of the 27th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission, as well as the Strategy for Scientific and Technical Development of Russia and Uzbekistan for the period 2026–2040. The parties reaffirmed their intention to continue implementing joint projects and strengthening strategic partnership. In 2027, Uzbekistan and Russia will mark the 35th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations.
