A two-month campaign called 'Cleanliness and Improvement' has started in Uzbekistan, covering all regions of the country. The goal of this initiative is to improve the sanitary condition of settlements, beautify public spaces, and increase green areas.
According to a presidential decree, garbage removal work began on October 1st. These works are being carried out in mahallas, along streets and roads, near irrigation canals and water bodies, as well as in other public places. Simultaneously, illegal dumps are being eliminated, territories are being cleaned, and trees and shrubs are being maintained.
Timely waste removal remains one of the priorities of the campaign. As part of measures to improve sanitary conditions, expand greenery, and raise environmental awareness among the population, specialized equipment is actively being used across all regions.
For the current reporting period, over 229 vehicles and units of equipment have been deployed in the Karakalpakstan Republic. 139 mahallas were cleaned there, and the total volume of waste removed amounted to 9,090 tons.
In the Andijan region, more than 330 vehicles and units of equipment have been deployed; over 230 mahallas have been cleaned, and 23,671 tons of waste have been removed. In Samarkand region, over 440 units of equipment are participating in the campaign. The volume of collected waste in Samarkand reached 23,125 tons after cleaning 319 mahallas.
In the city of Tashkent, 261 units of specialized equipment are deployed. 228 mahallas have been cleaned here, and 47,942 tons of waste have been removed.
An important part of the two-month campaign is the expansion of green spaces. Regions are identifying locations for planting trees and shrubs, and preparing the ground for the autumn season of the nationwide project 'Yashil Maqon'. A reserve of 10.597 million seedlings of trees and shrubs has been prepared for the autumn campaign. Additionally, 191,500 meters of irrigation systems have already been installed in green zones, which will ensure the necessary care for young plantings.
In particular, land plots are being prepared for upcoming planting in the Panob district mahalla in the Vobkent area and in the Jonedor districts of Bukhara region. Work at the Jonedor district nursery was also inspected: a well was drilled for watering seedlings, and mulching and composting activities were carried out to create favorable conditions for the growth and subsequent maintenance of trees and shrubs.
Thus, the 'Cleanliness and Improvement' campaign unites efforts to clean public places, remove waste, eliminate illegal dumps, improve territories, and develop urban and rural green infrastructure. Cleanup and preparation for autumn landscaping continue throughout the country.
